Destroy Lonely Prepares to Drop Broken Hearts 3 Amid Busy Hip-Hop Weekend

Destroy Lonely, the Atlanta-born rapper and singer, is joining his Opium label mates a bit late for the LP drop party, but timing does not seem to be a problem for his growing fan base. Each release has steadily expanded his audience, and his latest single, “Jumanji,” is proof of that momentum. Released last week, the dystopian-sounding track serves as the lone teaser for his upcoming project, Broken Hearts 3, which is set to arrive on September 19.
This week promises to be a heavy-hitting one for hip-hop fans, with major projects from Cardi B and Young Thug also dropping. Despite the stiff competition, Destroy Lonely remains confident in Broken Hearts 3. In an earlier interview with Clash, he explained his motivation for returning to this collection: “For a minute I didn’t know what I wanted to do next… I see what everybody says about me, I see how everybody feels, I see what they want… This is a project that I really just want to be for my fans. Like, it’s just my old producers on there, and old sh*t that I would do. Just me being completely myself, nothing else.”
Fans have had a glimpse of the sonic and thematic direction of Broken Hearts 3. During Rolling Loud Miami, Destroy Lonely previewed what listeners can expect. He promised raw, authentic music, saying, “I’m dropping new music, I got a mixtape coming out at the top of the motherfcking year, we not doing no album this time… We dropping real raw, real feelings… We back on that original sht.”
The upcoming release is positioned to be a strong finish to 2025 for the Opium collective. Playboi Carti’s recent project, MUSIC, sold nearly 300,000 copies, while Ken Carson and Homixide Gang have also delivered new tapes this year.
The label is gearing up for the Antagonist Tour, beginning October 3 and running through December 1, with the final show in Atlanta. The tour had faced delays in previous years, but the schedule is now confirmed. Broken Hearts 3 will arrive just as fans gear up for the tour, potentially giving Destroy Lonely a major boost in visibility and solidifying his place among Opium’s rising stars.
