Clipse’s Comeback Tour Delivers Unforgettable Moments With Kendrick Lamar Surprise

A month after releasing Let God Sort Em Out, Clipse’s comeback remains one of the most celebrated moments in hip-hop this year. The Virginia Beach duo, made up of brothers Pusha T and Malice, are currently on their first U.S. tour in about 15 years, and fans across the country have shown up in force. While every stop has carried weight, their Los Angeles show on August 23 at The Novo stands out as a highlight.

The packed venue erupted when Kendrick Lamar made a surprise appearance to join Clipse for a live performance of “Chains & Whips.” Fans were left in shock, their cheers echoing through the venue as Lamar delivered his verse with intensity. After finishing, he took a moment to honor the duo, telling the crowd, “This is our home city, it’s such a privilege to be in front of the motherf*cking legends, man.” He then embraced both Pusha T and Malice before watching the rest of the show from the crowd.

The night drew an unexpected attendee as well: comedian and actor Bill Burr. Though Burr has rarely spoken publicly about his views on hip-hop, he made it clear on his Monday Morning Podcast that he was blown away by the experience. “To the Nokia Theater (The Novo). I smoked some weed and dude it was fckin’ unbelievable,” he said. “Kendrick Lamar came out…I thought the fckin’ roof was going to blow off the place.” He even compared the energy in the room to seeing classic rock icons like AC/DC with Eddie Van Halen making a surprise appearance.

Despite Kendrick’s appearance being the major shock of the evening, Burr admitted his favorite part of the show was Clipse’s performance of “The Birds Don’t Sing.” The duo honored their parents with a heartfelt collage displayed on screen, showcasing their family history. Burr noted that the moment highlighted the love and values instilled in them by their upbringing, calling it deeply moving.

Clipse’s tour continues to build momentum. The U.S. leg wraps up on September 10 in Detroit, followed by a November show in San Diego. The duo will then head to Europe and the UK for a five-date run from November 5–12. Their comeback run will close on a massive stage back in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium, where they are set to perform at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival.

With a new album, sold-out shows, and support from both peers and fans, Clipse’s reunion has proven to be one of hip-hop’s most powerful comebacks in recent memory.
