Lil Yachty Praises Tyler, The Creator As Mentor Amid Controversy

Lil Yachty has publicly expressed gratitude toward Tyler, The Creator, calling him one of his key mentors. On Instagram, Yachty wrote, “Last leg of this tour for me and I just want to take the time to thank you for your friendship, thanking you for giving me the praises I needed to push me on and holding me accountable when I do some / ignorant shit. All in all, I’m grateful.”

He continued, “1 of the few mentors I have, always held me accountable, always challenged me. Forever grateful. Young men need mentors. Need a line of proper guidance. Thanks Tyyytyyy.” The two are currently touring together in support of Tyler’s Chromakopia album, performing across North America.

Yachty has recently faced backlash over an unreleased song that referenced George Floyd. During a stream with Plaqueboymax, he played a track including the line, “Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd.” The line drew criticism from fans and NBA star Stephen Jackson, a childhood friend of Floyd, who called out Yachty for using Floyd’s name for attention. Jackson said in a video, “Don’t ever say his name, bro. None of ya’ll knew G, nothing about him. But y’all wanna say his name for clout. That’s some weak-ass shit, Yachty.”

In addition, Yachty has faced accusations from former collaborator Karrahbooo regarding his treatment of women. Karrahbooo criticized Yachty for keeping her tied to a record deal and mistreating women, writing on social media, “U have a daughter and u treating women like this is mindblowing like I know u never see her but still that doesn’t make sense how evil this man is to women (not just me).”

Despite the controversies, Yachty’s tribute to Tyler highlights the influence and mentorship he values in his career. The rapper continues to navigate both praise and criticism as he tours and works on upcoming projects.
