Soulja Boy Arrested on Weapons Charges Following Los Angeles Traffic Stop

Rapper Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested early Sunday morning, August 3, in Los Angeles on weapons charges after a traffic stop, authorities confirmed. The incident unfolded when police pulled over a vehicle in which Soulja Boy was a passenger. Details regarding what prompted the stop, the identity of the driver, or why the vehicle was searched have not been disclosed by the Los Angeles Police Department.

In an official statement, the LAPD said: “A passenger was detained and police arrested DeAndre Cortez Way for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.” This latest arrest adds to the rapper’s previous legal troubles, including a 2014 conviction for carrying a loaded gun.

Soulja Boy has yet to publicly comment on the recent arrest.

The “Crank That” rapper’s legal challenges have been well documented, particularly following a high-profile civil trial earlier in 2025. In that case, an anonymous plaintiff accused him of assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The jury ultimately sided with the accuser, leading to a $4 million settlement against Soulja Boy.

After the verdict, Soulja Boy openly criticized the trial process, highlighting the financial toll it took on him. Speaking with Courtroom News Service, he said, “This trial has taken a lot of my money. As far as lawyer bills. This whole trial’s been real costly,” and noted he had missed out on several career opportunities because of the lawsuit.

Reaffirming his innocence, he stated, “I want to make it clear that I’m innocent. I am committed to filing an appeal and fighting for the truth to be revealed.” He also criticized the court’s decision to allow the accuser to remain anonymous throughout the proceedings, calling it an “unequal playing field.” Soulja Boy argued, “I believe this entire process has been tainted by a system that is not designed to protect the rights of the accused.”

His legal team released a statement defending him, asserting, “We maintain that the evidence does not support the verdict. It is unfortunate that aspersions and misperceptions of a culture were allowed to influence the trial. Mr. Way fully intends to pursue his post-trial remedies and to fight for a just result in this case.”

As of now, the rapper’s arrest on weapons charges adds another chapter to an already complicated legal history. Fans and observers alike will be watching closely as this story develops.
