On July 31, during a ceremony in North Miami, Kodak was presented with the Key to the City—his second such honor in just weeks, according to the Miami New Times report from August 1.

Born Bill Kahan Kapri, Kodak was recognized not only for his influence in the music industry but also for his active engagement in local community efforts. The event took place during North Miami’s annual youth internship program graduation and was led by Acting City Manager and Economic Development Director John Lorfils, a native of the city. Lorfils handed over the symbolic key in front of city officials, youth interns, and supporters.

“The keys to the city unlock opportunity,” a city representative said. “We give you the key as a reminder to return, to invest, to uplift.” Dressed in muted tones, Kodak accepted the honor modestly but later expressed gratitude on social media, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “Thank you, North Miami, for honoring me with the Key to the City. I appreciate the acknowledgment and love.”

This recognition adds to Kodak’s growing list of public honors, including a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, underscoring a complex narrative of legal challenges intertwined with notable acts of philanthropy.

During the ceremony, Kodak was praised for his charitable contributions, such as donating air conditioning units to residents of public housing and providing scholarships for the children of two FBI agents who lost their lives in the line of duty. These efforts have prompted local leaders to emphasize his positive impact on underserved South Florida communities, particularly in youth empowerment and financial assistance.

Despite ongoing controversies surrounding his legal history, Kodak’s involvement in civic events highlights a shift in public perception—at least within the local Miami and North Florida communities. City officials from North Miami and nearby Pompano Beach have highlighted the rapper’s tangible contributions to the community as evidence of his evolving legacy.

In addition to his civic work, Kodak continues to release new music. His latest single, “Still Breathing,” a collaboration with Upstates, dropped on July 29, reflecting his ongoing cultural presence amid personal transformation.
