JID Announces “Preluxe” Project Dropping July 4th Ahead of Upcoming Album “God Does Like Ugly”

Acclaimed Dreamville rapper JID is heating up the summer with back-to-back releases. On Tuesday, July 1st, the Atlanta native officially announced that he’ll be dropping a new project titled Preluxe this Friday, July 4th, 2025. This release will serve as a warm-up to his highly anticipated next studio album, God Does Like Ugly, which is set to arrive on August 8th.

JID unveiled what appears to be the official cover artwork for Preluxe along with the announcement. The image shows him suited up in his high school football gear, giving fans a nostalgic glimpse into his past. While full details about the project remain under wraps, the theme suggests Preluxe could be a reflective, raw, and energetic body of work, touching on JID’s roots and personal growth.

JID first teased God Does Like Ugly back in May, building anticipation among fans who’ve been eagerly waiting for his next chapter since 2022’s critically acclaimed The Forever Story. In April, JID gave listeners the first taste of this new era with the single “WRK.” On social media, he opened up about the emotional and creative journey that shaped the new material. “Starting this new journey coming off The Forever Story has been a very strange, productive, yet tedious process,” he shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The rapper candidly reflected on the feelings that followed the release of his last album, admitting: “I remember not feeling like I got what I think I deserved after that album came out and it sent me into a dark place (for maybe 20 mins cuz I ain’t no b—h).” The turning point, according to JID, came when producer Pluss played him a beat that sparked renewed motivation. “All I could hear was my OG coach saying, ‘Let’s go to WORK.’ I live my life by the saying ‘You can only control what you can control.’ So this is the first step into a new world that I control…and it’s f—kin UGLY.”

As if the Preluxe announcement wasn’t enough, JID also surprised fans with the release of a fiery new track, “32 (Freestyle),” on Tuesday. The song finds him rapping over the instrumental from Playboi Carti’s “HBA,” showcasing his signature rapid-fire flow and lyrical dexterity. Lines like “Interscope hit your boy with a twenty-piece / In a scope, you resemble a Kennedy / In a scope like the logo from Public Enemy” highlight JID’s sharp wordplay and clever references.

The accompanying music video adds a personal twist, featuring actual footage from JID’s high school football highlights. When sharing the video on X, he joked: “This my HighSchool Jr. highlight tape and Freestyle 32 is the background .. we gone drop the college tape next lol.” The teaser at the end of the video confirms the timeline for both upcoming releases with the message: “PRELUXE 7.4.25 GDLU 8.8.25.”

With JID’s track record of delivering thoughtful, high-energy, and lyrically dense projects, both upcoming releases are expected to make a major impact in the hip-hop landscape this year.
