DDG Loses Joint Custody of Son Halo After Abuse Allegations by Halle Bailey

In a significant legal development, YouTuber-turned-rapper DDG (Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) has been stripped of joint custody of his one-year-old son, Halo, following serious allegations of physical and verbal abuse made by his ex-girlfriend, actress and singer Halle Bailey. According to recently filed court documents, Bailey has been awarded temporary sole legal and physical custody of Halo until a formal hearing on June 4 will determine the long-term custodial arrangement.

Under the temporary order, DDG is barred from coming within 100 yards of both Bailey and their son. He is also prohibited from removing Halo from Los Angeles County or applying for his passport or any related travel documents without Bailey’s express consent. In the rare event that the court allows travel, Bailey has requested to receive DDG’s full travel itinerary and an open airline ticket in her name, ensuring she can retrieve Halo if necessary.

Bailey has asked the court to deny DDG unsupervised visitation, instead proposing supervised visits once a week. She argues that Halo’s safety and well‑being are at risk given the pattern of abuse she detailed in her petition. In her filing, Bailey stated, “Throughout our relationship, Daryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse.”

The court documents outline multiple alleged incidents. In January, Bailey claims DDG became violent while she attempted to secure Halo in a car seat. “The next thing I knew, things got physical between us. We fought each other, wrestling and tussling. At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to chip,” she recounted, noting that the pain forced her to stop resisting. Bailey submitted photographs purportedly showing bruises and scrapes she says resulted from the altercation.

In March, Bailey alleges DDG verbally berated her when she refused to bring their son to him due to Halo’s illness. According to her declaration, DDG smashed her home’s Ring doorbell upon discovering the device had recorded the confrontation—an incident Bailey says prompted her to file a police report.

DDG’s legal team has not yet issued a public statement addressing the abuse allegations or the loss of custody. Halle Bailey, whose rising profile includes her breakout role in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid, is expected to present her evidence and testimony at the June 4 hearing, where a judge will decide whether to extend or modify the current custody arrangement.

As both parents prepare for the next court date, this case highlights the complexities and high stakes involved in family law, especially when allegations of domestic abuse intersect with public figures’ personal lives. For now, Halo will remain under his mother’s care while the legal process unfolds.
