Kanye West Shocks Fans by Admitting He “Hates” My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Kanye West has never been one to shy away from controversial statements, but his latest revelation may be his most surprising yet — the rapper has admitted that he actually hates his critically acclaimed 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Widely hailed as a masterpiece and often considered one of the greatest albums of all time, MBDTF is revered for its lush production, grandiose themes, and emotional vulnerability. Yet, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, Ye made it clear that he does not share the same sentiment.
“I hate My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Like haaaaaaate that album,” West wrote bluntly.
The Reason Behind the Disdain
West went on to explain that his dislike for the project stems from the mindset he was in during its creation. “I made Dark Fantasy out of fear and to prove something,” he said. “It was like ‘coming back from the Taylor Swift moment’. I should have leaned in more.”
The “Taylor Swift moment” he refers to is, of course, the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards incident, where he interrupted the pop star’s acceptance speech — a moment that severely damaged his public image and led to widespread backlash.
In his eyes, Dark Fantasy was a response to that public shaming — a way to win back critical and cultural approval, rather than a purely artistic expression.
Comparisons to The Life of Pablo and Yeezus
Kanye didn’t stop at criticism. He went on to compare the album unfavorably to his 2016 project The Life of Pablo, declaring: “The Life of Pablo is waaaay better than My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Go song for song.”
He did, however, acknowledge a few standout tracks on MBDTF, including “Devil in a New Dress” and “Blame Game.” West also reflected on songs he loves from his more polarizing 2013 album Yeezus, which he revealed was initially titled N-gger Cock before his close friend Don C convinced him to change it. Tracks like “On Sight,” “Hold My Liquor,” and “Blood on the Leaves” made his shortlist.
Fans Push Back
This isn’t the first time Kanye has attempted to downplay the greatness of MBDTF. Just last month, he shocked fans again by claiming that his 2018 project Ye was “waaaay better” than the 2010 opus. That claim was met with heavy resistance from fans, who consider Ye to be one of his weaker efforts, both critically and commercially.
One fan clapped back: “Every Ye album is better than that trash,” while another told the rap icon to “stop lying.” A third responded with a video of Kendrick Lamar screaming “No!” in disbelief.
In a viral post, a fan even created a poll asking people to vote between Ye and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Unsurprisingly, MBDTF dominated with over 78 percent of the vote.
Legacy vs. Perspective
Despite Kanye’s personal feelings, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy continues to be regarded as a high watermark in his career. Ranked by Rolling Stone as the 17th greatest album of all time and the eighth best of the 21st century, the project is a staple in discussions about modern music excellence.
Whether or not Kanye sees the value in it, fans and critics alike remain unwavering in their praise — and for many, MBDTF remains the definitive Kanye West album.
In true Ye fashion, his recent comments may just be another chapter in the ever-evolving and unpredictable narrative of one of music’s most polarizing figures.
