Drake’s SiriusXM Channel Sound 42 Shuts Down After Four Years

Drake’s SiriusXM channel, Sound 42, has officially shut down—exactly four years after its launch in 2021.
The channel was part of a groundbreaking 2019 deal between Drake and SiriusXM, which was considered the largest agreement the company (along with its subsidiary, Pandora) had ever made with a major recording artist at the time. Throughout its run, Sound 42 offered listeners curated playlists from Drizzy himself, along with special appearances where he’d debut new music.
According to Radio Insight, the station has now been rebranded as simply “SiriusXM 42”, and currently plays a general selection of hip-hop music rather than exclusive Drake content.
Drake’s Cryptic Instagram Message Sparks Debate
In addition to the Sound 42 shutdown, Drake made headlines on March 10 with a cryptic Instagram post that seemed to address his various rap adversaries.
Accompanied by a collection of photos—including a screenshot from the 2017 film Phantom Thread—Drizzy wrote:
“U know I grew up non-confrontational and always treated this game as a sport where my pen won gold, but my these days the podium has been hard for all of us to ignore.
“I understand that this next chapter may leave you feeling uneasy, but I hope you see my honesty as clarity not charity that answers some questions especially about the unanswered texts you’ve been sending me.”
The post sparked immediate reactions, including from Freddie Gibbs, who mocked Drake’s statement by reposting it on his burner Instagram account (@youonlydie0nce) and adding multiple yawning emojis.
Freddie Gibbs Accuses Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR of Stealing From Him
Gibbs’ criticism of Drake didn’t stop there. The rapper recently accused Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR of stealing elements from his 2022 album, $oul $old $eparately for their new joint project, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.
Gibbs pointed out similarities between the dollar sign-heavy album title and the cartoon bunny imagery on the back cover of $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, which resembles the “Big Rabbit” mascot Gibbs has used for years.
“Damn they even stole the rabbits too. I’m flattered,” he wrote on X after seeing the tracklist reveal for Drake and PND’s project.
The rapper also retweeted fan posts accusing the OVO duo of copying him, doubling down on his claims.
Interestingly, DJ and radio personality Bootleg Kev revealed that Drake and Gibbs were once supposed to collaborate on a song for $oul $old $eparately. However, that collab never materialized—leaving some fans to wonder what could have been.
“He’s very hip and aware of the wave! I took the only pic of Freddie and Drake that exists too! Some light biting happening for sure,” Kev noted on social media.
With Sound 42 gone and tensions rising between Drake and various rappers, it seems like Drizzy’s next chapter will be anything but quiet.
