Big Sean & Detroit Pistons Partner to Support Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan

Big Sean is continuing his long-standing partnership with the Detroit Pistons to give back to his hometown in a big way. The rapper and the NBA team have announced a special initiative benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, tied to the Pistons’ upcoming game against the San Antonio Spurs on Sean’s birthday, March 25.
Fans who purchase a special ticket package for the game will receive an exclusive Big Sean bobblehead, with proceeds from sales going toward the Pistons’ foundation, which supports local Boys & Girls Clubs. Additionally, the first 100 people to buy the package will also receive an autographed copy of Sean’s new book, Go Higher, and a chance to meet the rapper after the game to discuss the book.
This initiative is just the latest in Big Sean’s deep-rooted relationship with the Detroit Pistons. Back in 2020, the Detroit 2 artist was named the team’s creative director of innovation, a role in which he has helped shape the franchise’s cultural aesthetics, from merchandise designs to enhancing fan experiences.
Speaking to The Undefeated, Sean shared how the opportunity came about:
“It was really something I threw out in the universe one day,” he said. “I mentioned it, like, man, ‘They need to give me a job!’ Talking about the Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers or Lions. I’m a huge Detroit fan. I’m ride or die with it. I’ve always said that, but especially with the Pistons. It’s crazy that it happened like this. I’m just truly grateful.”
He added:
“[I’m going] to bring that feeling and that aesthetic that I grew up with in admiring the Pistons as the franchise. Not to say it’s gone anywhere, but to really think creatively on how to execute a vision. I’ll creatively come up with ideas for us to look good and have fun and, you know, to culturally put our best foot forward.”
One of Sean’s most notable contributions in this role came in 2022 when he worked with Nike to bring back the team’s beloved teal-colored retro jerseys. The moment was especially meaningful for him, as he shared:
“Paying tribute to a Detroit classic ‘St. Cecilia’s’ (hence the green). The 3 stars (for the 3 championships accumulated) and that blue outline (for Detroit being a blue-collar city). I actually went to St. Cecilia’s for basketball camp when I was a shorty, so it’s full circle for real. They will wear these jerseys in-game for about 10 games.”
With his continued involvement in both the city’s music and sports scenes, Big Sean remains a key figure in Detroit’s cultural landscape. His latest initiative with the Pistons not only celebrates his birthday but also gives back to the youth, reinforcing his commitment to uplifting the community.
