The Game Claims West Coast Hip-Hop Throne Amid New Project Release

Compton rapper The Game recently made bold statements on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, asserting that he remains the top rapper representing the West Coast. Despite the majority of fans agreeing that his prime during The Documentary era has passed, the rapper firmly believes his skills surpass all current competitors.
“Can’t nobody out-rap me, man,” The Game said. “And anybody that knows will know. No one can do what I do. Not only do I have the ability to rap circles around people, I’m also with all the bullshit too if it came down to that. I’m the best rapper in this town.”
When host Shannon Sharpe referenced legends like Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg, The Game doubled down, explaining that he learned from their legacies to sharpen his own craft. “I love Cube but Cube can’t out-rap me,” he added. “I used Cube’s legacy to help me sharpen myself. I used Snoop’s legacy… Dr. Dre and N.W.A came before me. It’s like Kobe watching Mike growing up. If I was in 1992 with Cube, Cube might go crazy. But right now? Nah, there’s not a rapper on the West that’s better than me.”
He also claimed to be the top rapper from Compton, a city that produced Kendrick Lamar, Eazy-E, and DJ Quik. “I’m definitely the best rapper from Compton. Definitely,” he said.
The comments coincide with the release of The Game’s latest project, Gangsta Grillz: Every Movie Needs a Trailer, marking his first solo mixtape since 2022’s Drillmatic and his debut in DJ Drama’s iconic series. The 18-track project features Mozzy, Jeremih, Eric Bellinger, O.T. Genasis, and Hayley Williams of Paramore. A planned collaboration with Kanye West on a sequel to “Crack Music” was ultimately shelved.
The mixtape serves as a lead-up to The Documentary 3, the long-awaited third installment in The Game’s flagship series. Speaking to Real 92.3 L.A.’s J Cruz, he said the album is scheduled for early 2026. “I wanted to do a trilogy to service my grandmother’s memory… being more mature and wiser, being a God MC at this point. My pen is never slacking and my ability to put together albums completely is always top-tier, so The Documentary 3 is incredible.”
The Game’s confidence underscores his ongoing commitment to West Coast hip-hop and his legacy, even as the genre evolves with new voices and generations.
