Diddy’s Team Accuses Netflix of Using Unauthorized Footage in 50 Cent Documentary

A representative for Sean “Diddy” Combs has accused Netflix of using footage in 50 Cent’s new documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, without proper authorization. According to a statement shared with Loren Lorosa, Diddy’s team is seeking clarification on how the streaming giant obtained the material.
The statement claims that Netflix included private content that was never meant for public release. This includes pre-indictment material, unfinished project footage, and conversations related to legal strategy. Diddy’s team emphasized that the material was created for a different purpose, with no rights ever transferred to Netflix. They also rejected any notion that a payment dispute between outside parties could serve as permission to use unlicensed footage. The statement reads: “None of this footage came from Mr. Combs or his team, and its inclusion raises serious questions about how it was obtained and why Netflix chose to use it.”
The statement also criticized 50 Cent directly, pointing to their long-standing rivalry. Diddy’s representatives argued that the film exploits private moments for entertainment rather than presenting them fairly. They wrote, “50 Cent is a longtime public adversary who has mocked Mr. Combs for decades, posted fabricated accusations, and publicly celebrated his legal challenges. Even Mr. Jackson has admitted he was ‘shocked’ Sean ever filmed some of these moments, which underscores that the footage is being exploited for entertainment rather than presented with fairness or context.”
Sean Combs: The Reckoning is available to stream on Netflix. The four-part series is directed by Alex Stapleton and executive produced by 50 Cent. It features interviews with celebrities including Aubrey O’Day, Kirk Burrowes, and Mark Curry.
The documentary’s release coincides with Diddy serving a 50-month prison sentence at Fort Dix in New Jersey. Earlier in 2025, a jury found him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution, though he has consistently denied the allegations.
The dispute over Netflix’s use of footage adds another layer of controversy to a film already drawing attention due to the high-profile feud between Diddy and 50 Cent. It remains unclear whether legal action will follow, but Diddy’s team is pressing for answers regarding the source and authorization of the content.
