Tyler, The Creator Names Lloyd Banks as His Favorite G-Unit Member

Tyler, The Creator has revealed that his favorite G-Unit member is not 50 Cent, but Lloyd Banks. The Grammy-winning rapper made the admission after a fan posted a mashup of Tyler’s “Hot Wind Blows” with Banks’ “I’m So Fly.” The clip caught Tyler’s attention, prompting him to share his admiration for the New York rapper.

Responding to the post, Tyler wrote, “sick. bought hunger for more the day it came out. banks was my fav from g-unit.” The debut album he referenced, Hunger for More, was released in 2004 and is considered Lloyd Banks’ most successful project.

Banks noticed Tyler’s comment and simply replied, “Appreciate it.”

Tyler’s appreciation for Banks adds to his history of acknowledging the artists who influenced him early in his career. While many fans associate G-Unit with 50 Cent’s dominance in the mid-2000s, Tyler’s preference for Banks highlights the Queens MC’s lyrical skill and distinct delivery.

In a separate conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Tyler shared his current creative approach. He explained that he avoids overthinking the process and prefers to release music quickly once it is finished. “I didn’t wanna be precious. I didn’t want to spend three years and try to be super innovative. I made an album, I was done,” he said.

He elaborated on the pressure artists place on themselves, saying, “It’s so easy to design your own handcuffs… People end up scared and not putting albums out for 15 years because they feel like they always have to make the most innovative, best stuff. Sometimes, that song is good. Just put it out.”

Tyler added that his philosophy may change, but at the moment he wants to create and release music with the same freedom he had at 17. This candid approach reflects his continued commitment to artistic authenticity over industry expectations.
