Eve Reveals Brief 2001 Relationship With Suge Knight in New Memoir

Eve has opened up about a short-lived relationship with former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight in her memoir, Who’s That Girl?, as reported by HipHopDX. The rapper says the connection happened in 2001, shortly after she and Dr. Dre collaborated on the hit song “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.” According to Eve, the liaison was partially motivated by a desire to get back at Dre.

“I was still in my little mood about Dre even though we made a solid hit together, so having Suge, his former boss at Death Row stomping around Interscope felt like some sweet revenge. I am not really sure how I concocted this idea yet here we were,” she writes.

Eve adds that the relationship caused tension with Interscope Records head Jimmy Iovine. “I feel like he (Jimmy) took his anger out on my third album,” she explains, suggesting the brief romance had professional repercussions.

Her time with Suge Knight ended after Ruff Ryders co-founders Dee and Waah Dean advised her to cut ties. “They didn’t like the idea of me hanging out with Suge at all. When my guys said it was time to cut the cord, I didn’t think twice,” Eve recalls. She notes that Suge was reportedly not opposed to the split, saying, “If I was your little sis, I would tell you the same thing.”

Who’s That Girl? was released to mark the 25th anniversary of Eve’s debut album, Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady. She collaborated with hip-hop journalist Kathy Iandoli on the memoir. Speaking to BET, Eve reflected on why she chose to share these personal stories now. “The stuff that I talk about in the book is stuff that I have touched on a little bit, but I don’t think I’ve gone as deep. I have a kid now and felt like I was able to shed some things from my past and prepare people for my future and even for myself,” she said.

The memoir provides a deeper look at Eve’s career and personal life, offering fans insight into both her professional challenges and private experiences in the hip-hop industry.
