Cardi B Cleared of $24 Million Assault Lawsuit

Cardi B has been officially cleared of assault charges after being sued for $24 million by security guard Emani Ellis. The lawsuit alleged that Cardi attacked Ellis with her fingernail in 2018 during a visit to a gynecologist, causing a laceration on Ellis’s cheek.
Cardi denied the allegations, claiming that Ellis had refused to give her privacy during the appointment. The case went to trial, and the jury deliberated for just one hour before finding Cardi not liable for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, or false imprisonment.
Following the verdict, Cardi addressed the outcome publicly. “I work all day and I work hard for my money, for my kids, for the people that I take care of. So don’t you ever think that you’re going to sue me, and I’m just going to settle,” she said. She added, “Let’s just put this behind. But I’m giving a warning: I am not that celeb you gonna sue and you think is going to settle. Especially when I am super, completely innocent. I know I’ve got a little reputation but I swear to god I am innocent.”
Evidence during the trial supported Cardi’s version of events. The doctor she was visiting and the office receptionist testified that Ellis was the aggressor. The receptionist claimed Ellis attempted to hit Cardi, contradicting the security guard’s claims.
Ellis testified that she had recognized Cardi and said something like, “That looks like Cardi B” or “Wow, that’s Cardi B.” She alleged that Cardi responded, “Why the fuck are you telling people that you see me?” Ellis said she tried to calm Cardi down, but claimed that Cardi then cut her face with her fingernail, leaving a two- to three-inch gash, and attempted a punch that did not connect.
Ellis also accused Cardi of using racial slurs and body-shaming remarks, but the jury ultimately found insufficient evidence to support these claims. Cardi B has now been cleared of all allegations, ending a high-profile legal battle that had drawn significant media attention.
