A$AP Rocky Stars in A24’s New Drama If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Set for October Release

A$AP Rocky is stepping deeper into acting with a role in the upcoming A24 drama If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Directed by Mary Bronstein, the film also stars Rose Byrne, Conan O’Brien, Danielle Macdonald, and Christian Slater. It is scheduled to hit theaters in October.
The story follows a mother battling mental health issues while caring for her chronically ill daughter. The trailer teases emotionally intense scenes, blending A24’s signature dramatic style with raw, human storytelling.
Director Mary Bronstein shared the film’s origins in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I was displaced and under so much stress, and I just started unraveling,” she said. “I kept treating it like it was temporary, even though it kept going on and on. At some point, I decided to sort of take control… by turning this experience into a piece of writing. When we make art, we do have a form of control.”
The casting of A$AP Rocky signals a continued evolution of his career. While best known for his music, the Harlem native has made deliberate moves into film. His role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You follows his appearance in Spike Lee’s upcoming movie Highest 2 Lowest, arriving later this month.
Spike Lee recently praised Rocky’s performance during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “Don’t sleep on A$AP,” Lee said. “In this film, Denzel and A$AP go toe-to-toe. A lot of times when actors share scenes with Denzel, they get overwhelmed. But A$AP wasn’t having that.”
Lee added that he had always noticed Rocky’s resemblance to Denzel Washington, which added an extra layer to their onscreen chemistry. “When you see it on the screen, it adds an element of father and son.”
Between his roles in two major films and a new music teaser featured in the Highest 2 Lowest trailer, A$AP Rocky is expanding his creative reach. With If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, he joins a cast and crew committed to telling a deeply personal and emotionally grounded story. Fans can expect a standout performance when the film opens in theaters this October.
