Raekwon Announces New Album The Emperor’s New Clothes and Documentary with Ghostface Killah

Hip-hop icon Raekwon is officially entering a bold new era. The Wu-Tang Clan legend has announced the upcoming release of his eighth studio album, The Emperor’s New Clothes, set to drop on July 18 via Mass Appeal. Fans won’t have to wait long to hear what The Chef has been cooking up, and with an all-star lineup of collaborators, this project is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated albums of 2025.

The veteran lyricist isn’t going at it alone. The Emperor’s New Clothes will feature appearances from some of the biggest names in the game, including Griselda’s Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, and Conway The Machine. Raekwon’s Wu-Tang brothers Method Man, Ghostface Killah, and Inspectah Deck are also lending their talents, alongside Nas, Stacy Barthe, and Marsha Ambrosius.

Production credits are equally stacked. Swizz Beatz, Nottz, J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, Frank G, and Roadsart are among the producers enlisted to craft the sound of the album, promising a mix of gritty beats, soulful samples, and sharp lyrical storytelling that fans have come to expect from Raekwon.

The Emperor’s New Clothes follows his 2017 album The Wild, marking a return after an eight-year hiatus from solo LPs. While no singles have been released yet, the album is already available for pre-order, signaling that the full rollout is just around the corner.

But the music isn’t the only thing fans are excited about. Raekwon is also preparing to release a new documentary with Ghostface Killah, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their classic 1995 album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Titled The Purple Tape Files, the upcoming film promises to dive deep into the creation, impact, and legacy of one of the most influential albums in hip-hop history.

The official trailer dropped last month and features appearances from fellow Wu-Tang members as well as modern icons like Kendrick Lamar. “It ushered in the alter egos, the aliases,” RZA says in the teaser. Kendrick adds, “Still, to this day, it’s flows that you haven’t heard before, saying the most wild sh*t.”

In the trailer, Raekwon reflects on his journey from street life to rap stardom. “We had to make a conscious decision,” he says. “Either we want to stay here and keep holding guns and want to run around playing this game, or did we want to go for the American dream and get on this rap sh*t.”

With The Emperor’s New Clothes on the way and The Purple Tape Files generating major buzz, 2025 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Raekwon. Whether you’ve followed his journey from the beginning or are just discovering his legacy, this new chapter promises something powerful, poetic, and unforgettable.
