SiR Suggests Drake May Have Been Behind Toronto Show Cancelation Amid TDE-OVO Tensions

TDE singer SiR has finally opened up about the mysterious cancelation of his sold-out Toronto show last July, and according to the artist, Drake may have indirectly played a role.

At the time, fans were left in the dark when the concert was suddenly called off. SiR quickly addressed the disappointment online, saying, “So sorry to my Toronto fans. The show has been cancelled. We’re working on rescheduling for a later date.” He clarified that the show had sold out and the cancelation was not due to low ticket sales. “It was cancelled by the venue. Not sure why. My apologies again to those that came just to see me.”

Speculation soon swirled that the abrupt cancelation might be connected to the then-exploding feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. With Lamar—a fellow TDE artist—at the center of one of hip-hop’s most talked-about beefs in recent years, fans began to wonder if Toronto, Drake’s hometown, had become difficult territory for other TDE acts.

Now, nearly a year later, SiR is shedding more light on the situation, and his comments have only intensified the conversation. During a recent stop in Canada, a video shared by DJ Akademiks captured SiR addressing the crowd and hinting at behind-the-scenes pressure. “I kinda got caught in the middle of something I had nothing to do with,” he told the audience. “I ran into some complications. It was too close to home for a lot of people.”

He then dropped a bombshell: “So the venue in Toronto, which was partially owned by Drake, cancelled the show completely,” SiR alleged. “Then when we tried to switch venues, the next venue was like, ‘Nah, we ain’t fcking with it, I ain’t taking no motherfcking chance.’”

While SiR didn’t directly accuse Drake of personally pulling strings, his comments have reignited questions about the Canadian rapper’s influence over live performances in Toronto. The remarks suggest that venue owners may have feared potential backlash or tension stemming from the high-profile feud, even if SiR himself had no involvement in the dispute.

This isn’t the first time a TDE artist has hinted at being blocked from performing in Toronto. Last summer, ScHoolBoy Q also had a show canceled and took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent his frustration. “THey just canceled my sHow in Toronto. Canadian police don’t want nobody from TDE performing,” he wrote. “TOP was just wit Wayne & Baby smH partynextdoor just Had a sHow @ tHe palladium… now wHen sumbody get Hurt don’t cry…”

While Drake has not responded publicly to these allegations and no official reason has been given by the venue, the situation underscores the ripple effects that major industry feuds can have—even on artists who are not directly involved.

With SiR now back performing in Canada, fans are hopeful that future shows will go on without incident. Still, the lingering tension between TDE and Toronto’s music scene remains a topic of debate, especially in the shadow of one of hip-hop’s most polarizing rivalries.
