Kendrick Lamar Breaks All-Time Record for Weeks at No. 1 on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Chart with “Luther”

Kendrick Lamar continues to etch his name into the history books, this time by breaking the all-time record for the most weeks a song has spent at the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Chart. His latest smash hit, “Luther” — a powerful collaboration with SZA — has now logged 23 weeks at No. 1, surpassing the previous record set by Lamar’s own “Not Like Us.”
Between Kendrick and SZA, the dynamic duo now dominates the all-time list. SZA’s “Kill Bill” previously held the No. 3 spot, having reigned supreme for 21 weeks across 2022 and 2023. With “Luther” expected to maintain its grip on the top spot for the foreseeable future, Lamar’s latest milestone cements his position as a dominant force in contemporary music.
While “Luther” recently relinquished its spot at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 after a remarkable 13-week run, its reign atop the R&B/Hip Hop chart shows no signs of slowing.
Lamar’s record-breaking streak extends beyond the charts. His recent Grand National Tour has shattered multiple records on the live performance front. A standout show in Seattle grossed an astounding $14.8 million, making Kendrick the first rapper to surpass the $14 million mark for a single concert. The event drew nearly 61,000 fans, marking the most attended performance of the tour thus far.
Earlier in the tour, Lamar had already broken his own record when his Dallas performance at AT&T Stadium grossed $11.822 million in one night. That feat made Kendrick the highest-grossing Black man in history for a single live performance, eclipsing the previous record held by The Weeknd, whose 2022 concert at SoFi Stadium grossed $9.8 million.
The Grand National Tour’s opening night in Minneapolis also set a new benchmark for the highest-grossing rap concert ever, with more than 47,000 fans generating over $9.1 million in revenue, according to Touring Data.
In addition to his live performance triumphs, Lamar has continued to rewrite the rules on the Billboard charts. His hit “Not Like Us” became the first rap song in history to spend an entire year on the Billboard Hot 100, achieving an unprecedented 52-week run before falling off last month.
As Kendrick Lamar adds yet another record to his growing list of accomplishments, it’s clear that his influence on both the live music circuit and the charts remains unmatched. With “Luther” still riding high and a groundbreaking tour in full swing, Lamar’s momentum shows no signs of slowing.
