JPEGMAFIA Criticizes Drake Over Lyrical Content: “We Don’t Wanna Hear Him Complain Anymore”

JPEGMAFIA has taken aim at Drake, calling out the global rap star for what he sees as tired subject matter in his music. Speaking candidly in a recent interview with Billboard, the experimental rapper from Brooklyn offered a scathing take on the current state of hip hop—and singled out the 6 God as an example of stagnation.
“People yearn for something new, especially in rap. We’re yearning, we’re tired,” JPEGMAFIA said. “We don’t wanna hear Drake complain about bitches anymore. We don’t fucking care, he’s 40. We need something different. I’m here to try to provide and cultivate that as much as I can because rap fans are fucking bored.”
The outspoken artist didn’t hold back, going on to declare himself the face of a new frontier in rap: “Conscious rap has Nas, trap rap has Future, experimental rap is me. That’s it.”
Despite the criticism, Drake remains focused on his next move. The Toronto superstar is currently in the thick of recording a new solo album, which many expect to drop before the end of 2025. OVO affiliate Smiley recently revealed that Drake is completely immersed in the creative process, describing his work ethic as “crazy mode.”
“Even at the ‘Nokia’ video shoot, during a break, he had a bunch of producers and he was just recording. He’s in that crazy mode, right now,” Smiley said during a livestream. He also recalled a moment when Drake left a party to write music alone in a separate room. “We’re at a party and he was in the other room by himself eating pasta with wired headphones writing music while we have a whole fucking party going on. He’s on a different mode right now.”
Drake himself confirmed the album is on the way during a recent appearance on Adin Ross’s livestream. “Working on a new album right now,” he said, adding that it will be a solo project. “It’s a slap.”
Beyond the studio, Drake is gearing up for a major European tour set to kick off later this summer. With six UK shows across Birmingham and Manchester, as well as a historic triple-headline slot at London’s Wireless Festival in July, the demand for tickets has already been described as “unprecedented.” The tour will continue through major cities like Paris, Milan, and Berlin in September, with PartyNextDoor joining him as a special guest throughout.
While JPEGMAFIA’s comments are sure to spark conversation among fans and critics alike, Drake’s continued chart dominance and relentless output suggest he’s far from done. Whether he chooses to evolve his lyrical themes remains to be seen—but for now, the 6 God is staying locked in on delivering another major release.
