Cardi B Says She’s Not Releasing “Outside” as a Single, Focuses on Sophomore Album

Cardi B has confirmed that she won’t be releasing her viral track Outside as a single, despite widespread fan speculation that the song takes aim at her estranged husband, Offset. During a candid Instagram Live session, Cardi opened up about the overwhelming response to the song and her evolving plans for her long-awaited sophomore album.
“I don’t know if I really wanna put that song out, to be honest with you,” Cardi shared with fans. “And it’s not because I’m doubting myself and this, this, and that. I’m really, really grateful for all the love. It was never the plan. I don’t think I wanna put out a single to be honest with you. I just wanna put out my album all at the same time.”
She also revealed that she’s scheduled to film a new music video soon — but made it clear it won’t be for Outside.
Despite Cardi’s transparency, her decision sparked frustration among fans online. When Live Bitez posted a clip of her comments on Instagram, users flooded the comment section expressing disappointment. “Ngl I love her so bad but I’m starting to feel the fans when they say she BS with this album 6 years tho girl,” one user wrote. Another added: “I love Cardi but you need to listen to YOUR FANS cause without them you wouldn’t have a job……. If they liked it why not give them what they want? Especially being that you’re delaying the album… Doesn’t make sense to me but I guess.”
The Bronx rapper’s upcoming album — her first since 2018’s Grammy-winning Invasion of Privacy — has faced a series of delays. Last month, Cardi voiced her frustrations over unfinished collaborations during another Instagram Live session. “I really need these f*cking features,” she said, as reported by Rolling Stone. “I’m not really trying to press or go crazy on these artists because I love them down. But it’s like come on now, I need that. I need that right now. Y’all don’t want to miss this opportunity.”
Adding more fuel to the drama surrounding Outside is Cardi B’s personal life, which has been making headlines in recent weeks. Fans initially interpreted the track as a veiled shot at Offset following Cardi’s public debut with NFL star Stefon Diggs. Offset responded to the new couple’s buzz with a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Good roll out n PR. Today I pass.”
The tension escalated when Diggs was seen getting matching braids with Offset’s son, Wave. Offset reacted furiously on social media, posting: “Now when somebody die for playing with my son then call me the crash out.” He later followed up with another message: “Idc how I look trolling wit my kid ends bad.”
While Outside may not officially drop as a single, Cardi’s fans remain eager for new music as the wait for her sophomore album stretches on. Whether the full project will include Outside or offer fresh surprises, anticipation continues to build around what promises to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
