Suge Knight Revives Explosive Claims Against Dr. Dre in New Prison Interview

Decades after their infamous fallout, Suge Knight and Dr. Dre’s fractured relationship continues to make headlines. This week, Knight reignited long-standing allegations against his former Death Row Records partner, claiming that the legendary producer once tried to have him killed — a charge Dr. Dre has previously denied.
In a recent prison call interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, the embattled Death Row Records co-founder spoke openly about California’s controversial three-strikes law and his ongoing legal battles. Knight is currently serving a 28-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter in connection to a 2015 hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of Terry Carter.
But while reflecting on his case, Knight took a sharp detour to make a shocking accusation: that Dr. Dre — real name Andre Young — allegedly paid hitmen to take his life.
“I’m not supposed to have any strikes,” Suge said during the call, which has since gone viral on YouTube. “Also, they have proof of the guys with the guns. They got proof of payments where Andre Young paid these guys to kill me with a personal check. $20,000 here, money there. And they all agreed they was paid to kill me.”
The accusation isn’t entirely new. Suge and his legal team first introduced these claims in 2017, suggesting that the alleged murder-for-hire plot coincided with the very same day of Carter’s death — the day Knight ran him over with his vehicle outside a promotional shoot for Straight Outta Compton.
At the time, Dr. Dre’s legal team flatly denied the allegations, calling them “absurd” in a statement to TMZ. In a 2016 statement to The FADER, Dre’s representatives further clarified that the producer had had “zero interaction” with Suge Knight since leaving Death Row Records in 1996.
Still, the feud clearly has deep roots. Death Row Records was once the epicenter of West Coast hip hop, helmed by Suge Knight and catapulted to stardom thanks to artists like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac Shakur. But internal conflicts, legal troubles, and violent incidents quickly eroded the label’s legacy, leading to bitter separations.
Suge also touched on Dr. Dre while discussing the ongoing legal drama surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs, adding yet another layer of speculation and conspiracy to a hip hop landscape already rattled by federal investigations and civil lawsuits.
It remains to be seen whether Dr. Dre or his legal team will respond again to the renewed accusations. For now, the claims continue to fuel speculation and tension around one of hip hop’s most infamous breakups — a saga that, decades later, shows no signs of being resolved.
