Rod Wave’s Attorneys Say Arrest Was a Mistake, Reveal New Details Behind Fulton County Charges

Rod Wave’s recent arrest in Fulton County, Georgia, has taken an unexpected turn after his legal team publicly insisted their client was wrongfully charged. In a statement to Pitchfork, attorneys Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg argued that the singer—whose real name is Rod Green—“was a victim of a burglary and committed no crimes. How he was even charged as a result of this situation is incomprehensible. This will absolutely be resolved favorably to Mr. Green.”
According to court documents and law-enforcement sources, the incident began on April 21 when Rod Wave returned to his Atlanta-area home alongside realtors and close associates. Upon arriving, they discovered evidence of a recent break-in. It was at that point, police allege, that the rapper produced a Glock 20 10mm semiautomatic pistol and fired more than a dozen rounds inside the residence.
Investigators report that 11 of those shots struck a G-Wagon belonging to one of Rod Wave’s associates, while another round damaged the singer’s 2022 Rolls-Royce. A twelfth round embedded itself in a wall, and one bullet remains unaccounted for. Neighbors, alarmed by the gunfire, alerted authorities, and officers later found shell casings that the rapper allegedly attempted to collect and remove from the scene.
On May 21, Rod Wave was arrested and hit with 14 charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, reckless conduct, criminal damage to property in the second degree, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and felony tampering with evidence. Additional counts range from simple assault and conspiracy to commit a felony to aggravated assault, pointing or aiming a gun at another person, and multiple counts of reckless conduct and obstruction.
Despite the gravity and number of charges, Rod Wave was released on a $50,000 bond and remains free pending trial. His attorneys maintain that once the full circumstances are examined, the charges will be dropped, arguing that the rapper acted in self-defense after a burglary and never intended to harm anyone.
As this case moves through the Fulton County court system, fans and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see whether prosecutors proceed to trial or agree that the initial charges were unwarranted. For now, Rod Wave continues to perform and promote his music while his legal team battles to clear his name.
