JID Reflects on Disappointment from The Forever Story and Prepares for New Album Forever & A Day

JID is coming off a year of reflection and growth after the release of his critically acclaimed album The Forever Story in 2022. While the Dreamville rapper was initially disappointed with the reception of the album, he’s found a renewed sense of energy and purpose as he prepares for the next chapter of his musical journey.

In a recent Instagram post, JID gave fans a candid look into his mindset. “Starting this new journey coming off THE FOREVER STORY has been a very strange, productive, yet tedious process,” he wrote. He admitted feeling as though he didn’t get the recognition he deserved after the album dropped, which led him to a brief “dark place.” However, in true JID fashion, the rapper quickly regained his focus and moved forward, stating, “for maybe 20 mins, ’cause I ain’t no bitch.”

The turning point came when he was in the studio, hearing a beat from Pluss that reignited his passion. “All I could hear was my OG coach saying, ‘Let’s go to WORK,'” JID shared. This moment of clarity led him to embrace the mantra, “You can only control what you can control,” which has shaped his approach to both life and music. “This is the first step into a new world that I control… and it’s fuckin UGLY.”

JID’s announcement that his upcoming album, Forever & A Day, is finished has further hyped fans. Speaking to i-D magazine during Paris Fashion Week, he confirmed, “It’s done. It’s turned in — it’s been turned in. It’s coming really fucking soon.” The project has been in the works for years, and JID is confident that he’s in a great position to share his new vision with the world. The album continues the thematic thread from his previous projects, The Never Story and The Forever Story.

In addition to the new solo project, JID has also been teasing a joint album with superproducer Metro Boomin, which fans have eagerly anticipated since the two were spotted in the studio together in 2023. Earlier this month, JID offered fans a taste of what’s to come by debuting a new track, “WRK,” during his set at J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival. The high-energy track, which was also shared as a snippet on social media, has fans buzzing with excitement for the upcoming album.

As Forever & A Day nears its release, JID continues to build anticipation. The rapper is undeniably entering this new era of his career with a renewed sense of purpose and confidence, ready to deliver the heat his fans have been waiting for.
