Metro Boomin Delays A Futuristic Summa—But It’s Coming Sooner Than You Think

Some fans may have started their day with high expectations, eagerly refreshing their streaming platforms in hopes of hearing Metro Boomin’s brand-new project A Futuristic Summa. But to everyone’s surprise—and disappointment—the highly anticipated release was nowhere to be found.
Luckily, there’s no need to panic. Metro Boomin took to social media late last night (July 21) to let fans know that the mixtape is indeed on the way, just not today. “PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE FUTURISTIC SUMMA NEXT WEEK,” he tweeted, giving fans hope that the wait won’t be long. While he didn’t confirm an exact date, if his original plan was to release it today (July 22), it’s likely we’ll see the project drop as soon as next Tuesday, July 29.
However, there’s some confusion around the official date. According to Genius, A Futuristic Summa is now slated for an August 1 release, which would align with the industry’s standard Friday drop. Until Metro gives final confirmation, fans are left speculating.
The frustration over the delay is understandable—especially since Metro made the announcement just hours before the expected release. But based on his tweets, the delay may actually be tied to securing a high-profile feature. In the same post, he tagged frequent collaborator Future, writing: “@1future LETS GOOOOOO 🛸,” suggesting that the HEROES & VILLAINS producer is waiting for a verse from the ATL icon.
Supporting that theory is a leaked voicemail from Future himself, where he says, “Three times where you at? I’m pulling up to the lab right now. I gotta drop a verse on this FUTURISTIC SUMMA sh*t.” While fans typically love a Metro x Future link-up, this particular collab is causing some division.
“I ain’t kidding, everyone said tonight wtf… we don’t care bout no government-mandated Future feature,” one fan posted online. Another added, “You only make songs with Future—we’re tired of it.” The backlash seems to stem from Metro’s previous promise of an “all new cast” for this mixtape. With rumors of appearances from Quavo and Roscoe Dash (who already appears on the lead single “Slide”), some are questioning how fresh the features really are.
Still, with a reported 20 tracks and over a dozen yet-to-be-revealed collaborators, there’s a lot we don’t know. The door remains wide open for A Futuristic Summa to deliver something sonically and creatively new.
As fans wait for Metro Boomin to confirm the final date and full tracklist, one thing is certain: the anticipation for this tape is sky-high. Whether it drops July 29 or August 1, A Futuristic Summa is shaping up to be one of the summer’s biggest releases—and hopefully worth the short delay.
