Doechii Shuts Down Industry Plant Claims While Celebrating Major Milestones

Doechii has been grinding for years, but now that she’s finally getting her flowers, some critics have labeled her an “industry plant.” However, the Florida-born rapper is making it clear that her success is nothing but the product of talent, hard work, and perseverance.
At Billboard’s Women in Music 2025 event on March 29, Doechii accepted the Woman of the Year award and used her speech to silence doubters. The Grammy-winning artist reflected on her journey and emphasized that her rise to fame is entirely earned.
“I cannot believe it was just two years ago I stood on this stage right here and accepted the Billboard Rising Star Award,” she said. “I had literally performed so hard I danced my shoes off and had to hop up to the mic. And here I am. That moment reflects how I approach my career – always go full out, always go hard and always be fab.”
She went on to make a powerful statement about women’s place in the industry.
“We are the creatives, we are the executives and we are the innovators who are just as central to this industry as the men. Clock it! And I want everybody to hear me clearly when I say that it is not a button, it is our brains. It is not a machine, it is our leadership. It is not a conspiracy, it is our vulnerability. And it is not an agenda, it’s God!”
Tyler, The Creator Praises Doechii’s Talent
Doechii has earned respect from fans and peers alike, including Tyler, The Creator, who recently gave her high praise during an interview with Nardwuar.
“Genius, love her. That girl’s an alien. She’s an alien,” he said. Tyler revealed that he first discovered Doechii through YouTube recommendations.
“It was the ‘Catfish’ record or ‘Nissan Altima.’ I was like, ‘What is this? Damn, this girl pretty as hell.’ And I clicked it and I was blown away and I just kept going and kept going and kept going.”
His admiration led him to reach out directly.
“I was like ‘Oh my God!’ and then I DM’d her and I was like, ‘N***a, I’m gonna need you in a few months!’ And then we linked and yeah, she’s incredible. I’m so happy that she [won a Grammy] and she’s in folks’ faces and we have to just keep supporting artists who care about things.”
The admiration is mutual, as Doechii has previously listed Tyler, The Creator among her favorite artists. In a past interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, she mentioned him alongside legends like MF DOOM, Westside Gunn, and JAY-Z.
“I’m from the south so I didn’t grow up on a lot of JAY-Z, but I recently went through all of his discography. Oh my God! Everybody knows he’s crazy but damn! Hearing his growth?! Wow, so incredible. He’s so cool.”
Doechii’s Star Continues to Rise
Despite the “industry plant” accusations, Doechii’s career speaks for itself. With a Grammy win, a Billboard Woman of the Year honor, and cosigns from some of the biggest names in music, she has cemented herself as one of hip-hop’s most exciting artists. Her story is one of dedication, and as she continues to thrive, it’s clear that her success is only just beginning.
