Big Sean Faces a Tough Choice Between Eminem & Lil Wayne on UPROXX’s ‘Sound Check’

Big Sean’s admiration for hip-hop legends Eminem and Lil Wayne was put to the test in a recent episode of UPROXX’s Sound Check, a show where artists must choose between iconic songs from their musical influences. Hosted by Jeremy Hecht, the fast-paced challenge pushes guests to reveal their preferences while reflecting on their careers and inspirations.
During his session, Sean Don was faced with a series of difficult decisions involving tracks from rap and pop icons like Common, E-40, and Michael Jackson. But the real challenge came when he was asked to pick between Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”—two of the most celebrated songs in hip-hop history.
The Dilemma: ‘A Milli’ vs. ‘Lose Yourself’
For Big Sean, both songs hold personal and professional significance. Reflecting on their impact, he said:
“It’s crazy the impact they both have had on me, how both of them have gone out of their way for me. 8 Mile just inspired me crazy, but so did ‘A Milli,’ dawg. When he dropped ‘A Milli,’ it was unbelievable. […] They’re both GOATs.”
As a Detroit native, Sean has always been vocal about his appreciation for Eminem, whose success story from the city’s underground rap battles to global superstardom has been a source of motivation for him. On the other hand, Lil Wayne has personally shown him love throughout his career, including on the 2015 track “Deep”, where Wayne raps:
“I feel like Sean don’t get enough shine / Is it because he ain’t got the tattoos? He ain’t throwin’ up signs?”
Sean admitted that this verse was a major moment for him, saying, “When he did that, I was like, ‘Bruh, you ain’t have to’—he was rapping like I was one of his artists.”
