Baka Not Nice Speaks on Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Diss and Drake’s Advice

The Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef produced many unforgettable moments, but few lines hit as hard as Lamar’s jab at Baka Not Nice on Not Like Us. The lyric—“Baka got a weird case, why is he around?”—quickly became one of the most quoted lines from the battle, sparking online discussions and memes. However, while fans continue to reference it, Baka himself is far from amused.
Recently, the OVO Sound artist and former bodyguard addressed the diss during an interview with Hot Freestyle, revealing his initial reaction and why Drake ultimately convinced him to stay silent.
Baka Not Nice’s First Reaction
In the interview, Baka admitted that his instinct was to respond immediately.
“My first initial thing was to respond and respond quickly, very efficiently and directly,” he said. “It started brewing in me because where I come from, you can’t just call out a man and not have paperwork to back it up. It’s ludicrous. And then to see a whole nation behind it and celebrating it like it’s a true story is unbelievable.”
He went on to stress that the accusations referenced in the diss track were serious and baseless, adding, “Everybody has to understand: I have a kid, Drake has a kid, so to be making accusations like that are ridiculous and out of this world.”
Drake Steps In
Despite his anger, Baka revealed that it was Drake who convinced him to let the situation go.
“I was building up a lot of anger, but then I got a call—it was like God said something to him,” Baka recalled. “The Boy [Drake] said, ‘Yo, I know what you’re feeling, I know how you get down, but I’m just letting you know, don’t listen to the noise ’cause it’s noise.’”
Drake reportedly pointed out that much of the online reaction came from bots and not real fans, advising Baka not to engage with the controversy. “Don’t let that shit bother you, bro,” Baka said, paraphrasing Drake’s message. “It’s not a good thing, but they’re calling your name!”
Addressing the “Weird Case” Allegations
Baka further dismissed Kendrick’s implication about his past legal troubles, calling the narrative “crap.”
“At the end of the day, they’re gonna get over this crap because they’re gonna realize that it’s crap, and then they’re gonna do their own research,” he said. “And then you’re gonna be like, ‘Wow, this guy made up a whole story that isn’t even true.’ It makes you look weird to me.”
The controversy stems from Baka’s 2014 arrest in Canada, where he was accused of forcing a woman into prostitution. While he pleaded guilty to charges of assault and firearm violations, the prostitution-related charges were dropped after the alleged victim refused to testify. Baka ultimately served six months in prison for the incident.
The Aftermath of Not Like Us
While Baka and Drake have tried to move on, the impact of Not Like Us remains undeniable. The song has become one of the most celebrated diss tracks in hip-hop history, and Kendrick Lamar’s dominance in the battle has only boosted his status. Meanwhile, Drake’s legal battle with Universal Music Group continues, as he attempts to regain control of his music in the wake of the feud.
For now, it seems unlikely that Baka will reignite the issue, given Drake’s advice to steer clear of the drama. However, with tensions still lingering from one of rap’s biggest rivalries, it remains to be seen whether this chapter is truly closed.
