Tyler, The Creator Shows Major Love to Doechii: Praising Her Talent and Creativity

Tyler, The Creator is known for his eccentric personality and his ability to recognize and celebrate talent. In a recent interview with the iconic Nardwuar, Tyler took a moment to shower Florida-bred artist Doechii with praise, calling her a “genius” and expressing his admiration for her unique sound and artistic vision.
When asked about how he discovered Doechii, Tyler had nothing but glowing words for the rising star. “Genius, love her. That girl’s an alien. She’s an alien,” Tyler said, adding that it was her track “Catfish” or “Nissan Altima” that initially caught his attention. “I came across Doechii on something that YouTube recommended. I was like, ‘What is this? Damn, this girl pretty as hell,’” Tyler recalled. “And I clicked it and I was blown away, and I just kept going and kept going and kept going.”
His excitement was evident as he continued: “I was like ‘Oh my God!’ and then I DM’d her and I was like, ‘N-gga, I’m gonna need you in a few months!’ And then we linked, and yeah, she’s incredible.” Tyler was clearly thrilled with Doechii’s artistry, adding, “I’m so happy that she [won a Grammy] and she’s in folks’ faces and we have to just keep supporting artists who care about things.”
The admiration between the two is mutual, as Doechii has previously named Tyler, The Creator as one of her favorite artists. In an interview with Ebro Darden for Apple Music back in September, Doechii shared her appreciation for Tyler and other artists she’s currently into, revealing how she’s been diving deep into the catalog of rap legends. “Lately I’ve been into a lot of MF DOOM, rest in peace,” Doechii said. “Westside Gunn — he’s so talented. So incredible. Tyler, The Creator, JAY-Z. I’m from the south so I didn’t grow up on a lot of JAY-Z, but I recently went through all of his discography. Oh my God! Everybody knows he’s crazy but damn! Hearing his growth?! Wow, so incredible. He’s so cool.”
During the same interview, Doechii discussed her roots in hip-hop and her connection to the genre’s traditional elements. “When people are listening to this project, they’re really witnessing me reconnect with my roots. I learned how to rap through boom bap beats, through classic beats. My first rap that I ever made was a diss track,” she said. “With me kinda coming back to myself … I kinda re-fell in love with Hip Hop. And realized that there is a sense of tradition in Hip Hop that I really want to represent and bring back.”
Both Tyler and Doechii’s love for hip-hop is undeniable, and it’s clear that they deeply respect each other’s artistry. With their mutual admiration, it’s only a matter of time before we see more collaborations between these two incredibly talented artists.
For fans of both Tyler, The Creator and Doechii, it’s an exciting time to witness these two pushing the boundaries of their craft while also supporting each other in their artistic journeys.
