Doja Cat Channels 80s Vibes Ahead of Fifth Album Vie

Doja Cat’s fifth studio album, Vie, is set for release on September 26 via RCA Records, and the rollout is leaning heavily into 80s nostalgia. Recently, she announced the deluxe edition’s pre-order on Instagram, adopting the persona of Max Headroom, the first computer-generated TV presenter, for the announcement. The pre-order offers early access to previews, exclusive content, and more for fans who secure it ahead of release.
The announcement follows the release of the lead single, Jealous Type, which dropped late last month. Doja delivered a standout live performance of the track at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, featuring a saxophone solo from Kenny G to open the show. The performance highlighted her ability to merge contemporary pop with retro influences.
In a conversation with Zane Lowe, Doja Cat revealed that Vie will explore themes of love bombing and naivety in relationships. She explained that experiences from past relationships shaped much of the album’s lyrical content. “I speak about rushing and love bombing in a way. That’s kind of a big one. I think that’s a fun subject to sing about,” she said.
Doja added that the album also addresses self-awareness in relationships. “Sometimes people don’t know that they’re doing it or they do, giving excessive compliments and gifts right off the bat. I thought that was a really fun thing to write about. Also being okay when someone finds someone else and taking value from it as a lesson,” she explained.
Vie promises to blend 80s-inspired visuals and sounds with Doja Cat’s contemporary pop sensibilities, offering fans a mix of nostalgic aesthetics and modern themes. With the deluxe edition pre-order live and the lead single already generating buzz, anticipation for the full project continues to build.
