Kanye West Revives Sunday Service Choir—With a Controversial New Rule

Kanye West is nothing if not unpredictable. After years of inactivity, the rapper has announced the return of his Sunday Service Choir, a gospel collective that once defined his Christian rebrand. However, there’s a catch—one that’s raising eyebrows.

West took to Instagram to declare that he’s holding auditions for new Sunday Service vocalists. The twist? Those who are accepted must shave their heads in order to be sworn in as members of the choir. Given the rapper’s documented fascination with the Nazi party and history of exerting control over his followers, this requirement has sparked immediate concern.

Kanye West’s Sunday Service Auditions Set for March 14

West has scheduled the Sunday Service Choir auditions for March 14, opening the opportunity to anyone willing to try out. However, his insistence on a mandatory bald head upon acceptance has left many questioning his motives.

This is not the first time West has allegedly attempted to enforce such a rule. A lawsuit filed in April 2024 by Trevor Phillips, a former Donda Academy employee, claimed that the rapper wanted students at his school to shave their heads upon entry. Even more disturbingly, Phillips alleged that West proposed locking students in cages—a claim tied to his well-documented interest in Adolf Hitler.

“By filing this lawsuit, we hope our injured clients’ rights are vindicated, and that the famous artist Mr. West understands that his messages,” Phillips’ attorney stated. “Which we allege preach discrimination, antisemitism, and Hitler-love—have no place in the world.”

Kanye West’s Increasingly Controversial Views

Rather than distance himself from Nazi ideology in the wake of backlash, West has doubled down on his antisemitic rhetoric. Over the past year, he has publicly praised Hitler, called himself a Nazi, and even worn clothing featuring a Swastika.

It’s a far cry from the Christian values he once promoted during the initial rise of the Sunday Service Choir. The original group was a phenomenon, with performances at Coachella, major festivals, and even the release of an album, Jesus Is Born, in 2019. Whether this second iteration will find similar success remains to be seen—but with West’s reputation in free fall, it’s unlikely to be met with the same enthusiasm.
