Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon Brand Expands with New Burger Restaurant in Los Angeles

Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon Brand continues to keep his legacy alive with the launch of a new burger restaurant in his hometown of Los Angeles. Scheduled to open on Saturday (March 1), the restaurant will be located at Melrose and Gardner, just a short distance from Nipsey’s iconic Marathon clothing store. The establishment will serve smash burgers and aims to further cement the Marathon ethos into the food industry.
Honoring Nipsey’s Legacy
The dining room will feature images of the late rapper, paying homage to his impact on the community. To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 customers will receive a free meal.
“The Marathon team is excited to expand the brand into the restaurant industry here in L.A.,” Nipsey’s team said in a statement. “When Nipsey birthed The Marathon (Brand), launching it with The Marathon mixtape in 2010, the goal was always to enterprise this into a full lifestyle brand — music, fashion, food/hospitality, and entertainment. This is another step towards reaching Hussle’s vision.”
From Pop-Up to Permanent Location
Marathon Burger initially debuted in October as a pop-up restaurant, selling burgers and chicken sandwiches. The venture was spearheaded by Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, who has been instrumental in carrying on the rapper’s entrepreneurial vision.
Continuing Nipsey Hussle’s Vision
Nipsey launched the Marathon brand in 2010, and following his tragic murder in 2019, his estate and family have continued to expand its reach. The brand’s move into the food industry aligns with Nipsey’s long-term vision of creating a diverse business empire that impacts multiple industries.
Legal Developments in Nipsey’s Case
While his legacy continues to grow, legal proceedings surrounding his tragic death also persist. Recently, Eric Holder, the man convicted of Nipsey Hussle’s murder, attempted to overturn his 2022 conviction. However, an appeals court denied his bid.
The appeal had two main points. First, Holder’s defense argued that the jury should have been allowed to consider his state of mind before the shooting. However, the appeals court ruled that since Holder did not testify, such speculation was inadmissible.
“Appellant did not testify, and no other evidence about what appellant was thinking or feeling prior to the shooting was presented to the jury. Thus, the inferences about appellant’s specific thoughts and feelings that defense counsel purported to draw were not based on the evidence,” the court decision stated.
The second part of the appeal challenged a firearm enhancement added to Holder’s sentence, but that argument was also dismissed, with the court ruling that the enhancement was correctly applied.
A Lasting Legacy
Despite the ongoing legal battles, Nipsey Hussle’s impact remains undeniable. With the opening of Marathon Burger, his brand continues to expand, ensuring that his vision of community empowerment and entrepreneurship thrives. As his legacy lives on, the Marathon continues.
