Master P Named President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans

Master P has added another impressive title to his already extensive resume, as he has been officially named the President of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans. The No Limit Records founder and longtime basketball enthusiast shared his vision for the program during a press conference on Wednesday (February 26).
Master P’s Vision for UNO Basketball
“Today is history,” Master P declared. “We’ve come a long way. Growing up in New Orleans, when I was a kid, I looked at the University of New Orleans basketball program as probably one of the best in the country. Every kid wanted to come to the Lakefront Arena and be a part of this.”
He continued, “I’m just so appreciative and blessed that God has given me this opportunity … to rebuild this program. We gonna change this. This is our culture, this is our team and this is our family. We want to give that family love out here to the city to bring the people back where it should be at.”
Master P is stepping into the role at a challenging time, as the program is currently dealing with controversy. Four players have been suspended due to an ongoing investigation into possible league violations related to sports gambling.
A Lifelong Passion for Basketball
While many recognize Master P as a hip-hop mogul, his passion for basketball has been evident for decades. In 1999, he played in the Charlotte Hornets’ training camp, showcasing his skills on a professional level. Over the years, he has continued to stay involved in the sport, including making a push for a coaching position with his hometown NBA team, the New Orleans Pelicans.
“I think we got a great team,” he said in an interview last year. “I just think that maybe we gotta wait a couple more years.” He then made a direct appeal to Pelicans management, saying, “Y’all need to put me on the coaching staff next year [and] we gonna win the whole thing.”
A Basketball Legacy in the Miller Family
Master P’s love for basketball extends to his children, who have been making their own mark in the sport. His son, Mercy Miller, gained national attention in 2023 when he broke Notre Dame High School’s scoring record with an incredible 68-point game. Mercy now plays for the University of Houston, while his older brother, Hercy Miller, plays for the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds.
Hercy made headlines last year when he and two teammates were accused of stealing refrigerators, leading to an arrest. However, the charges were later dropped, allowing him to continue his basketball career.
What’s Next for Master P and UNO?
With Master P at the helm, there is hope that the University of New Orleans basketball program can rebuild and thrive once again. His leadership, business acumen, and deep-rooted love for the game may be exactly what the team needs to turn things around. As the season unfolds, fans will be watching closely to see how the legendary mogul’s impact shapes the future of UNO basketball.
