Busta Rhymes Honored with Doctorate from Harvest Christian University

Busta Rhymes has achieved another milestone in his illustrious career, receiving an honorary doctorate from Harvest Christian University. The legendary rapper and cultural icon, affectionately known as the Dungeon Dragon, was recognized during the university’s New York Winter 2025 Masterclass Commencement ceremony on February 1.

Busta was not the only notable figure honored during the event. Joining him in receiving honorary degrees were entrepreneur Nikki Hunter-Cummins, singer Monique Nikkole, and Hempstead Senior Councilwoman Dorothy L. Goosby. The ceremony’s keynote speaker, Don Pooh—husband of Hunter-Cummins—delivered an inspiring address.

Taking to Instagram, Busta shared his excitement with his fans through a series of photos and videos from the event. In his caption, he wrote, “WILL NEVER STOP SAYING IT!! THE BLESSINGS DON’T STOP SO WE WON’T EVER STOP NEVER EVER EVER!! DON’T LET NOBODY EVER STEAL YOUR JOY!!! IT’S OFFICIAL!! FROM THIS DAY FORWARD YOU WILL FOREVER KNOW ME AS DR. RHYMES!!!!!” He expressed gratitude for the recognition, calling it an honor and a blessing to be acknowledged in such a meaningful way.

This isn’t the first time Harvest Christian University has honored figures from the music and entertainment industry. Last year, rapper T.I. was awarded a similar honorary doctorate during the university’s Spring 2024 commencement in Atlanta. Known for his versatility as a rapper, producer, actor, and entrepreneur, T.I. was celebrated for his significant contributions to the entertainment world. His wife, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, was also honored during the event. In 2021, R&B singer Tank received the same distinction.

For Busta Rhymes, the honorary doctorate is one of several major recognitions he’s received recently. Just days before the commencement ceremony, he was awarded the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to their communities. In an Instagram post on January 30, Busta shared the news, revealing he was recognized for his work as an international hip-hop artist, entrepreneur, and humanitarian.

Busta’s ability to inspire and uplift, both through his music and his community work, continues to solidify his legacy as one of the most impactful figures in hip-hop culture. From his Grammy nominations to his recent academic recognition, Dr. Rhymes’ journey is a testament to hard work, creativity, and a commitment to giving back.
