Denzel Curry Unveils New Project and Leads Rap Supergroup The Scythe

Denzel Curry is back with a new project that coincides with the announcement of rap’s next supergroup, The Scythe. The Florida rapper, who previously made waves with Raider Klan, is now stepping into a leadership role with this collaborative effort. The group includes Curry, A$AP Ferg, TiaCorine, Bktherula, and Key Nyata.
According to a press release obtained by Pitchfork and Complex, Curry sees The Scythe as a way to honor his Southern rap roots while pushing the subculture forward. The collective aims to celebrate the hip-hop scenes in Memphis, Houston, and Miami. “The Scythe is a family and a group,” Curry says. “We still have our respective solo careers, but when we come together, it’s The Scythe.”
The announcement clears up earlier speculation about a collaboration between Curry and ULTRAGROUND, a collective originally founded by him and Nyata. While that project still exists in spirit, the lineup and name have evolved into The Scythe, with a wider roster and new direction.
The group’s first project, Strictly 4 The Scythe, will drop on Friday, March 6. Working On Dying, the producer collective behind hits like “LIT EFFECT,” is reportedly handling production for the entire album. The lead single, “LIT EFFECT,” features Bktherula and LAZER DIM 700, showcasing the signature Southern sound that fans expect from Curry’s work.
The album includes collaborations with artists outside The Scythe such as Juicy J, Smino, Luh Tyler, SadBoi, Rich The Kid, LAZER DIM, 454, and 1900Rugrat. Pre-orders for the eight-track project opened on Tuesday, January 20, with the exclusive $30 edition already sold out.
Curry’s leadership and curation of The Scythe signal a major moment for Southern rap, blending solo careers with collaborative energy to honor the genre’s past while shaping its future. Fans can expect a mix of intense Southern beats, high-profile features, and the collective’s distinct chemistry in Strictly 4 The Scythe.
This project positions Denzel Curry as a key figure in the next wave of rap supergroups, reinforcing his reputation for innovation and influence within the hip-hop community.
