NLE Choppa Shuts Down “Gay Baiting” Claims: “I Am Not a Gay Baiter”

NLE Choppa, the Memphis rapper known for his bold and distinct style, is once again addressing the ongoing accusations of “gay baiting” that have followed him, especially after his appearance on the cover of Playgirl magazine. The rapper has consistently faced scrutiny for some of his suggestive photos, including one from the Playgirl shoot that displayed part of his backside. These visual choices have sparked speculation about his sexuality and led to claims that he’s attempting to “bait” gay men.

In the past, NLE Choppa’s fans and critics alike have pointed to his provocative images and the lyrics in his 2024 single “Slut Me Out 2” as reasons behind the accusations. In the song, he raps, “If I was a bad bitch, I’d wanna fuck me too,” which some listeners found to be suggestive or indicative of a blurring of gender norms. However, Choppa has made it clear that he is not trying to cater to a specific audience or send any misleading signals about his sexuality.

In a video addressing the ongoing narrative, NLE Choppa directly responded to the “gay baiting” allegations. “I really don’t care, and I think that’s the problem,” he explained. “I think I don’t care so much that it’s like a disconnect. It’s like since I don’t care so much and I know who I am so much, I just feel like narratives get painted because I don’t care so much.”

Choppa went on to assert that he isn’t trying to lure anyone into thinking he’s someone he’s not. “Do not say that I’m a gay baiter because I’m comfortable enough to show off the perfection that God has orchestrated over my physical, my mental, my spiritual, and even my emotions,” he added. “I am not a gay baiter because I post a selfie in the mirror showing off how beautiful I am. I am not a gay baiter if I post a picture showing off how much God has blessed me from below the waist with something that got women going crazy.”

The rapper also emphasized that his body, including his appearance in the Playgirl photo shoot, is his own and that he should not be shamed for how he chooses to present himself. “I can’t show a piece of my own ass without being called a name? It’s my ass! I am not a gay baiter because I showed my ass to a lady photographer,” he declared.

Ultimately, NLE Choppa made it clear that he has nothing but love and respect for the LGBTQ+ community, but he would never try to manipulate anyone for personal gain. “I love gay people but I would never want to bait gay people to love me for a certain reason,” he concluded.

This is not the first time NLE Choppa has publicly shown his support for the LGBTQ+ community. In September 2024, he performed at Atlanta’s Black Pride Weekend, where he addressed potential backlash head-on. He shared his thoughts with the crowd, saying, “A lot of muthafuckas will ask me, ‘You a rapper, what you doing at a club like this?’ Well, I say, ‘Fuck them n-ggas.’” He went on to speak about the universal struggle for acceptance, no matter a person’s race, weight, appearance, or sexuality.

During his performance, NLE Choppa also assured the audience that his actions weren’t about chasing followers or views, but about spreading love and unity. He emphasized, “I’m really here to make a difference and show y’all it’s love, bruh. We Black, no matter what.”

Choppa later posted on Instagram, explaining his decision to perform at the event and highlighting his belief in acceptance for all, regardless of background or identity. In the caption, he also reaffirmed his heterosexuality, writing, “I Am A Heterosexual Male And If You Are That And You Know That Then What’s The Issue, God Bless.”

In sum, NLE Choppa continues to stand firm in his identity and his message of inclusivity and self-confidence. Despite facing accusations, he maintains that his actions are simply a reflection of his comfort with who he is and his desire to spread love and acceptance.
