Nicki Minaj Reclaims the Throne as Highest-Selling Female Rapper of 2024
Nicki Minaj has officially reclaimed her position as the highest-selling female rapper of 2024, surpassing Doja Cat for the title. As revealed by Chart Data on November 30, Minaj has outperformed her fellow women in rap this year, even with one month left to go. The chart shows Minaj at the top spot, followed by Doja Cat at No. 2, with Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Sexyy Red rounding out the top five.
This marks a reversal from 2023 when Doja Cat held the top spot, with Minaj in second place. Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and Ice Spice were also among the top five last year, but this year’s rankings see a shift in the rap landscape.
Doja Cat, who was relatively quiet throughout 2024, only dropped a deluxe edition of her 2023 Scarlet album ahead of her Coachella performance. Since then, she has kept a low profile, taking a break from social media. However, she has teased a “new era” for 2025, hinting at a potential return with new music in the upcoming year.
On the other hand, Nicki Minaj has been more active, spending a large part of the year touring and releasing new music. One of her most notable releases was the 10th-anniversary celebration of her acclaimed The Pinkprint album, which featured bonus tracks, including a posthumous collaboration with Juice WRLD. Minaj will also close out the year with a deluxe edition of her 2023 chart-topping album, Pink Friday 2, which will be released on December 13. The deluxe edition is expected to be a grand finale for the year, as Minaj has announced plans to take a break after this release.
Minaj confirmed her hiatus plans following the final show of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour in October, saying on her Stationhead radio show, “I am doing a hiatus. But I have the Vogue thing, which I’m very proud and honored to do, and a couple things and then I’ll be taking a little moment to reflect.” However, she later shut down fan speculation by humorously clarifying her stance on a break, telling fans, “Ain’t going no mthfkn where. Kiss my ass & HIATUS.” It appears Minaj will indeed take a brief pause after a decade of relentless work but with no immediate plans to step away permanently.
Despite a quieter year for Doja Cat, Minaj’s resilience and ability to stay relevant, even with minimal releases, show her power and influence in the rap world. With 2024 drawing to a close, it’s clear that Nicki Minaj remains a dominant force in the music industry, and her upcoming releases and potential new era in 2025 will only add to her legacy.
