GloRilla and Sexyy Red Tease Joint Project: “Men Gonna Hate Us”
GloRilla and Sexyy Red are no strangers to successful collaborations, and now the pair is teasing the possibility of a joint project following their string of successful collaborations. The duo recently sat down for an interview with XXL, reflecting on their standout years in hip-hop and discussing what a potential joint album would sound like.
During the conversation, Sexyy Red asked GloRilla what fans could expect from a potential collaborative project. Without missing a beat, GloRilla responded, “Ratchet as fuck.” Sexyy Red quickly agreed, adding, “It gon’ be some super ratchet shit. The n-ggas gon’ hate us.” Glo jokingly added, “No, I mean the men gon’ hate us,” to which Sexyy countered, “Because we both trench-certified, you know? Two young ladies.”
Despite the playful back-and-forth, GloRilla concluded, “You know we gotta do it,” hinting at the possibility of a joint project down the line. While they didn’t delve deeper into the idea during the interview, the playful exchange sparked excitement among fans eager to hear the two rap powerhouses team up on an album.
Their conversation also touched on the recent critiques from figures like 50 Cent, who expressed concerns about the current trend in mainstream female rap. He argued that many of today’s female rappers focus heavily on sex appeal, and he suggested that the increasing dominance of such content might be harmful to female culture. “I just want somebody to break [through] that is not trying to sell some box,” 50 Cent remarked during an interview. However, he acknowledged that he too had made raunchy records in the past, such as “Candy Shop” and “Magic Stick,” but he emphasized the difference between metaphors and the more explicit content in modern rap.
Despite the criticism, GloRilla defended her approach to rap in a previous interview, pointing out the similarities between male and female rappers. “What men rap about? Killing, fucking, robbing, cars, money,” she said. “Females rapping about the same shit. But guess what? We’re not killing. We’re not in gangs. We’re not robbing. That’s what men be doing. What we doing? We’re sitting pretty, we’re popping our shit, we’re hustling, we’re getting money. We fuck, so we rap about what we do.”
With both GloRilla and Sexyy Red carving out their own lanes in hip-hop, a collaboration between the two seems like a natural next step. Fans can only hope that this tease leads to something more substantial in the future. If it happens, the joint project is sure to be one filled with high-energy tracks and unapologetic lyricism.
