Trey Songz Ordered to Pay $11 Million in Default Judgment Over Alleged 2021 Assault
R&B singer Trey Songz has been hit with an $11 million judgment after a Las Vegas judge ruled against him in a lawsuit brought by Tyrelle Dunn, a Maryland Capitol police officer. The lawsuit stems from an alleged assault in 2021, during which Dunn claims he was injured while attempting to help his wife leave Songz’s hotel room.
According to TMZ, Songz did not respond to the lawsuit, leading to a default judgment in favor of Dunn.
The Allegations
The lawsuit details a harrowing series of events. Dunn alleges that his wife was escorted by Songz’s security team to room 6014 of the hotel, where she expected to meet the singer. However, once inside, she was allegedly assaulted, prevented from leaving, and had her phone taken away. Hearing his wife’s screams for help, Dunn says he rushed to the room, where he was allegedly attacked.
Dunn sustained severe injuries, including fractures to both eye sockets, as well as injuries to his nose, face, ribs, stomach, ear, and head. He claims these injuries caused him to miss over a month of work and left lasting physical and emotional scars.
“The attack has had a profound and everyday impact on my life,” Dunn wrote in his statement. “I still have the scarring, and I think about the attack every day when I see the injuries to my face and body.”
Hotel Staff’s 911 Call
A 911 call from a hotel worker obtained by 8 News Now sheds further light on the incident. The worker described Dunn as “battered” and expressed concern about the situation escalating. “He was battered in a room, and we can’t go up there because we’re not sure if the people are armed,” the worker told the operator. “They battered him and they stole his money and his chain.”
Legal and Criminal Proceedings
Despite the judgment in the civil case, Songz was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing in April 2022. It is currently unclear if the singer plans to appeal the $11 million ruling or make a public statement regarding the case.
