Digital Nas Calls Out Industry ‘Vultures’ Over “Carnival” Credits Dispute
Digital Nas, a longtime collaborator of Kanye West, is making waves once again, this time over credit disputes on “Carnival,” a hit track by Ye and Ty Dolla $ign. In a heated social media rant, the producer aired his grievances, claiming his contributions to the Grammy-nominated and chart-topping track were dismissed unfairly.
Nas began by sharing an email from A&R Matt Geffen, who informed him that fellow producers Traxster, 88-Keys, and Morning Estrada had not verified his input on the song. Frustrated, Nas took to social media to detail his involvement:
“Fritz [Owens, engineer] text me, ‘Ye and Carti need you.’ I go there. ‘Nas, what do we need done to Carnival?’ I tell them everything that needs to be done, told Ye to change his verse. Carnival gets nominated for a Grammy, it goes number one. They’re doing the paperwork, and this guy Matt Geffen comes out of nowhere, tries to regulate shit.”
Nas accused industry insiders of exploiting young talent, calling them “vultures” who claim credit for work they didn’t do. He revealed that “Carnival” earned $47,000 in publishing revenue, but alleged that others were fighting for recognition they didn’t deserve. “These n-ggas is old as fuck, don’t have no talent. But they use young n-ggas’ sound and then try to say they did something on the record when they didn’t do shit!”
While Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have not yet addressed Nas’s claims, the controversy has reignited conversations about credit allocation in the music industry, particularly for rising producers and collaborators.
Previous Controversies
This isn’t the first time Digital Nas has stirred the pot. Recently, he criticized Tyler, The Creator’s album Chromakopia, calling it repetitive and unimpressive. Nas left a scathing comment on Tyler’s Instagram, labeling the album’s production as “gay ass Tyler the Creator chords and weak ass Pharrell drums.”
Tyler responded privately to Nas’s comments with sarcasm, referring to himself in a derogatory manner before dismissing the criticism. Nas doubled down, sharing his own music as a benchmark for quality, saying, “When u can make something this level, we can talk.”
A Pattern of Outspoken Behavior
Nas, who has worked with major artists like Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty in addition to Kanye West, has a reputation for his bluntness. While his talent is undeniable, his outspoken nature often puts him at odds with the industry’s biggest names.
As the fallout from the “Carnival” controversy continues, fans and critics alike are left wondering how it will affect Nas’s standing in the music world. Will his boldness open new doors, or will it isolate him from future collaborations? One thing is certain: Digital Nas isn’t backing down.
