Tyler, The Creator’s latest album, Chromakopia, has made waves across the music industry, officially earning the title of the biggest debut of any rap album on Spotify in 2024. Just a day after its release on October 28, ChartData reported that the album garnered over 85 million first-day streams on Spotify’s global chart, putting it among the top 20 all-time debuts across all genres.
Coming in at No. 16 on Spotify’s list of biggest debuts, Chromakopia sits alongside some of hip-hop’s monumental releases. The only other rappers with higher first-day streams include Travis Scott (UTOPIA), Kanye West (DONDA), Kendrick Lamar (Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers), and Drake, with multiple releases including Certified Loverboy, Scorpion, For All the Dogs, and Her Loss (with 21 Savage). The success of Chromakopia has also propelled Tyler, The Creator to the top of Spotify’s global Top Artists chart, marking his first time at the No. 1 spot.
A Bold and Theatrical Album Release
Tyler’s Chromakopia arrived on streaming platforms just after a sold-out listening event held at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, the newly opened home of the Los Angeles Clippers. Fans who attended the $5-a-ticket event witnessed Tyler in a striking black mask and military uniform, performing on green-lit shipping containers, creating a visually captivating show to debut the album.
During the event, Tyler shared insights into Chromakopia’s creative process, revealing that it was inspired by memories from his childhood. He told the crowd, “This album originally started [with me] growing up in these areas. I was like, ‘Oh shit, no one knows anything about me from before, like, 17.’” Reflecting on life’s journey and maturing into adulthood, Tyler shared, “Life is life-ing and I just wanted to write about stuff that I think about when I’m dolo. And I’m happy that y’all got to experience it in my hometown.”

Following the album’s historic debut, Tyler, The Creator will kick off the Chromakopia World Tour in 2024.
