Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 Shooting Still Fuels Controversy as New Accusations Emerge

Nearly five years after Megan Thee Stallion was shot in a high-profile incident that dominated headlines, the case remains a lightning rod for public debate. Despite rapper Tory Lanez being convicted in 2022 for the shooting, ongoing conspiracy theories and fresh claims continue to cast doubt among his supporters — and reignite conversation around the night that changed the trajectory of multiple lives.

This week, a bombshell accusation added new fuel to the fire. Bradley James, the former bodyguard of Kelsey Harris — Megan’s ex-best friend and a key figure in the case — made explosive claims that Harris, not Lanez, was the one who fired the shots. Speaking during a press conference on May 14, James’s attorney, Walter Roberts, alleged that Harris fired at Megan three times before Lanez intervened.

“[Harris] fired at [Megan] three times. Mr. Peterson grabbed her arm and knocked it down, and the gun fired two more times. In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody. Never even touched that gun,” Roberts claimed. The statement directly contradicts the findings of the court, where a jury found Lanez guilty on all charges related to the shooting, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team swiftly pushed back. Her attorney, Alex Spiro, issued a firm statement reiterating the validity of the court’s ruling. “Tory Lanez was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers and his case was properly adjudicated through the court system,” Spiro said. “This is not a political matter — this is a case of a violent assault that was resolved in the court of law.”

Still, public reaction has remained sharply divided. Many fans of Lanez have long maintained his innocence, citing inconsistencies in witness testimonies and speculation around Kelsey Harris’s role in the altercation. The latest allegations by her former bodyguard have only intensified these narratives, leading to a noticeable surge of online support for Lanez.

Adding to the situation, Tory Lanez was reportedly stabbed multiple times in prison earlier this week. According to a post from his official Instagram account, he suffered 14 stab wounds — including seven to the back, four to the torso, two to the back of the head, and one to the face. The attack was so severe that both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing machine. He has since been removed from the machine and is said to be recovering.

The alleged assailant, identified as Santino Casio, reportedly has a history of violent behavior while incarcerated. The incident has prompted concern from both Lanez’s supporters and critics alike, highlighting the dangerous conditions he now faces behind bars.

Amid the renewed attention, celebrities have also become involved in the conversation. Drake, for instance, recently liked a post by DJ Akademiks discussing the new claims made by Harris’s bodyguard — a move that many interpreted as silent support for Lanez or at least skepticism about the official story.

As new narratives continue to surface and public opinion remains polarized, the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion is proving to be one of the most enduring and debated controversies in modern hip-hop. Despite a legal resolution, the court of public opinion appears far from reaching a unanimous verdict.
