According to Nassau County Police, the man who allegedly knocked and killed Nicki Minaj’s father in a hit-and-run was arrested on Wednesday. Announcing the  news, Nassau Police Homicide Squad Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick reported that Charles Polevich, 70, had turned himself in on Wednesday. He was then charged with fleeing the scene of an auto accident with a fatality and tampering with evidence.

Polevich pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a $250K bond, as per his attorney, Michael Scotto. While commenting on the case, Scotto said that it was a tragic accident and that they are condoling with the Maraj Family.

Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, 64 had been walking in Mineola, Long Island, Friday evening when he “was struck by a northbound, undescribed, vehicle that left the scene of the accident,” the Nassau County Police Department announced in a statement last week. Unfortunately, Maraj eventually succumbed to his injuries and died at the Hospital, police said.

Police also announced that Polevich allegedly altered and hid his white Volvo station wagon in an attempt to hide it from police after the incident. However, police were able to track the car back to the suspect’s house, through security footage.

“He’s absolutely aware of what happened,” said Fitzpatrick. “He got out of the car and he looked at the deceased, got into his car and made the conscious decision to leave. Instead of dialing 911, instead of calling an ambulance for the man, he went home and secreted his vehicle.”

The news of Nicki Minaj’s father’s passing comes just a few months after the birth of her first child with husband Kenneth Petty. The rapper has yet to make any public statement about her father’s death.

Police are currently working with Maraj’s family regarding the investigation and the arrest.
