The Weeknd, Justin Bieber Top List For 2021 Juno Award Nominations! The 2021 nominees list for the Juno Awards is out, and The Weeknd tops the pack. The Weeknd whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, is coming off an impressive run following his recent performance at the Super Bowl halftime show becoming the first solo Canadian to headline the event. The hit maker made history once again with his No. 1 hit “Blinding Lights,” which has seemingly earned staying power, securing a spot in the chart’s Top 10 for a 52nd consecutive week.
The Weeknd sparked controversy last year following a snub by the Grammy Awards, receiving zero nominations.
Well that is not the case with the Junos, which are set to take place May 16. The Weeknd’s album After Hours is nominated for Album of the Year, while “Blinding Lights” receives nomination for Single of the Year. The artist has also received nominations for Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Fan Choice and Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year.
Other artists leading the pack include Justin Bieber, Jessie Reyez, and JP Saxe, who have 5 Juno nods each.
Part of the nominees for Rap Recording of the Year includes TOBi, for his mixtape ELEMENTS Vol. 1, Nav for his album Good Intentions (Brown Boy 2 Deluxe Version)and 88GLAM for their project New Mania.
First-time nominees include TikTok stars Curtis Waters and Tate McRae, as well as Saxe and Vancouver-based R&B duo Manila Grey.
