After dominating the charts with his After Hours album, the “XO” singer has hit a new Billboard Hot 100 milestone .Yesterday (Monday March 8) his smash hit “Blinding Lights” that has seemingly earned staying power, secured a spot in the chart’s Top 10 for a 52nd consecutive week.
The Weeknd becomes the first artist to log a song for a full calendar year inside Billboard‘s premium chart, as no other artist has ever achieved such a feat. Towards the end of 2020, The Weeknd surpased Post Malone’s record who had previously held the record with 39 Top 10 weeks for “Circles.”
With “Blinding Lights” having slid back to Position 3, it earned its 27th consecutive week in the top 3, which sees the all-time record tie with The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” as well as Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!” The smash hit has also earned its 43rd week in the Top 5, – 16 times more than any other record!
The Weeknd comes out as one of the big winners of the coronavirus pandemic as far as music is concerned. He furthered his After Hours success into headlining the Pepsi Super Bowl’s halftime Show performance last month (February). Apart from “Blinding Lights” The Weeknd has another smash hit in the top 10 – the artist is seemingly calling the Top 10 home. “Save Your Tears” stands firm at No. 6 this week on the Hot 100 after debuting at No. 4 in February.
