Swizz Beatz Reveals What Drove Dr Dre Away From Verzuz! During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club Swizz Beatz and Timbaland had a variety of topics up for discussion, including who would emerge the winner in a Verzuz battle between Usher and Chris Brown. In the course of the interview, Swizz Beats gave an interesting revelation about a Verzuz battle that almost came to be, only to be derailed at the last minute. And the unfortunate reality is that were it to have manifested, it would have been one hell of a battle.

Going by Swizz Beatz’s account, Dr. Dre was looking forward to trying his hand at the Verzuz battle, only to change his mind as a result of an unfortunate technical limitation. “When Dr. Dre wasn’t feeling the sound from Teddy Riley and Babyface, that hurt our heart,” Swizz revealed, a revelation that sparked a hearty laugh from Charlamagne and Envy. “If you go back, Dre was at the Teddy Riley one, he came at the end. He was supposed to announce that he was going to do Verzuz that night!”

“I don’t think he was going to announce who he was battling,” Swizz goes on, after Envy asks whether or not he was slated to battle Diddy. “He was going to announce ‘I’m ready, I’m coming.’ Then he got on the phone like ‘man, I can’t be a part of nothing that sound like that. My legacy is quality.’ I was like ‘we just lost Dre over the sound? That one felt pretty crazy. But since then, the energy has been pretty good.”

That was disappointing to say the least, though it’s not entirely surprising given Dr. Dre’s legacy as a true perfectionist particularly when it comes to the audio.
