Kanye West Claims He and Drake Will Eventually Drop a Joint Album

Kanye West and Drake’s relationship has been one of the most complex and unpredictable sagas in hip-hop history. From collaborators to rivals, from friends to enemies and back again, their dynamic has constantly shifted. Their last official collaboration was the “Free Larry Hoover” benefit concert in 2021, a moment of apparent reconciliation after years of tension. However, despite their turbulent history, Ye recently suggested that their story isn’t over just yet.
During a recent conversation with DJ Akademiks on livestream, Kanye revealed that he had reached out to Drake to be a part of his latest album, Bully. Specifically, he sent over the intro track, “Preacher Man,” hoping for a feature. However, Drizzy declined.
“You know I sent ‘Preacher Man’ off Bully, the intro, to Drake first?” Kanye shared. When Akademiks asked how Drake responded, Ye recalled, “He just, like, he said something like, ‘Aw man, I don’t mean to spoil your dreams’ or some st. I don’t know, he just did his thing and st.” Despite the rejection, Kanye remains optimistic about their future, claiming, “I think before it’s all said and done, I’ll do an album on him.”
The History of Kanye and Drake’s Beef
Their rivalry dates back over a decade. Some speculate that Kanye felt threatened by Drake’s rise in the early 2010s, leading him to team up with Jay-Z for Watch the Throne as a way to cement his dominance. What followed was a mix of friendly competition and subtle jabs, with the two occasionally working together—until things took a turn for the worse.
The real fallout began in 2018, when Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music affiliate Pusha T exposed Drake’s secret son on the diss track “The Story of Adidon.” Many believe Kanye played a role in leaking the information, though he has denied it. From there, their relationship continued to deteriorate, culminating in a heated 2021 showdown between Donda and Certified Lover Boy. Rumors that Drake had an affair with Kim Kardashian only fueled the fire.
However, as unpredictable as Ye can be, he seems to have once again shifted his stance. In his recent industry rants, he has taken issue with Universal Music Group’s handling of Kendrick Lamar, suggesting that he now sees Drake as a fellow victim of the label’s tactics.
Will Kanye and Drake Ever Reconcile?
Despite the ups and downs, Kanye believes a collaborative album with Drake is inevitable. Whether this is wishful thinking or a genuine possibility remains to be seen. Their past suggests that anything can happen, but given Drake’s response to Bully, it doesn’t seem like he’s in a rush to reunite musically.
Still, if they ever do come together for a full project, it would be a historic moment in hip-hop—one that could either redefine their relationship or add another layer to their complicated legacy.
