‘Supervillain – The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine’ Teaser Reveals Rapper’s Road to Infamy! On Wednesday Jan. 27, Showtime previewed the trailer of its new documentary series; Supervillain:The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine. Better Call Saul star Giancarlo Esposito narrates the 3-part series about how New York City former deli clerk Daniel Hernandez transformed himself to become today’s famous rainbow-haired, face-tattooed, hip-hop star Tekashi 6ix9ine.
The Showtime series is based on Rolling Stone, a January 2019 feature by journalist Stephen Witt “Tekashi 6ix9ine: The Rise and Fall of a Hip-Hop Supervillain,” The Showtime series will also showcase the rapper’s high-profile criminal past and feature an exclusive life after prison interview following his release last year.
Scenes from 6ix9ine’s interviews, concerts, video shoots, court appearances and more are cut together in the teaser as several of his notable quotes about becoming a “legend” and “infamous” play.
6ix9ine pleaded guilty to firearms and racketeering charges in February 2019. He got into an agreement with the prosecutors to speak out against his former associates, the Brooklyn gang Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, who helped cultivate his initial gangsta persona. After providing a tell-all testimony his sentence was reduced to two years, with a 13 months’ time served. He was released in April 2020, as COVID-19 ravaged the prison system.
Supervillain is directed by Karam Gill and produced by Imagine Documentaries, Rolling Stone and Lightbox. Executive producers include Brian Grazer with Justin Wilkes and Sara Bernstein of Imagine Documentaries, Gus Wenner of Rolling Stone, Jonathan Chinn and Simon Chinn of Lightbox, Peter J. Scalettar and Witt.
Supervillain will premiere on Showtime Sunday, Feb. 21, at 10 p.m. ET. Episodes will air every Sunday through to March 7, and the entire 3-part docuseries will be available to download and watch on demand on Showtime and its various partner platforms from Feb. 21.
