Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist Could Be Dropping Alfredo 2 on July 25—Here’s Everything We Know

Hip-hop heads might want to mark their calendars—July 25 could see the long-awaited return of one of rap’s most acclaimed duos. Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist are reportedly gearing up to release Alfredo 2, the sequel to their Grammy-nominated 2020 classic. While no official announcement has been made by either artist, the internet is buzzing with strong hints that the project is real—and imminent.

The rumor mill kicked into high gear after Fake Shore Drive’s Andrew Barber shared a screenshot from hip-hop-focused Instagram page @belowthehiphop. The post showed an Amazon Music pre-save for Alfredo 2, listing July 25 as the official release date. That same post has since disappeared, but not before sparking serious excitement online.

Adding weight to the leak is the fact that @belowthehiphop is followed by respected music reviewer Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop, giving the scoop a bit more credibility in the eyes of fans. However, when searching Amazon Music now, there’s no trace of the alleged pre-save link—leading some to speculate that it may have been pulled down after gaining attention.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a release link for Alfredo 2 has surfaced. In late June, a mysterious lnk.to page associated with the album popped up but returned a 404 error when accessed. That link still doesn’t lead anywhere, but it added fuel to speculation that Gibbs and The Alchemist had something brewing.

Despite the lack of confirmation, more details have emerged about the potential project. The rumored cover art features a bowl of ramen—a clever callback to the original Alfredo’s pasta-themed artwork. The album is said to include 14 tracks with a total runtime of 47 minutes, dropping at 8:00 a.m. PDT on July 25.

One curious twist? The Alchemist’s name reportedly isn’t listed on the pre-save page. Instead, a smiling emoji and Japanese characters appear, which may be a stylistic decision—or possibly The Alchemist’s name translated into Japanese.

While fans are rightfully cautious, the excitement is hard to contain. The original Alfredo, released on May 29, 2020, was hailed as a modern-day masterpiece. With sharp bars from Freddie Gibbs and lush, sample-heavy production from The Alchemist, the album earned a Grammy nomination and featured standout collaborations with Tyler, The Creator, Rick Ross, Benny The Butcher, and Conway the Machine.

Now, over five years later, a follow-up feels both overdue and perfectly timed. If Alfredo 2 does drop as rumored, it would arrive in the middle of one of the busiest hip-hop months in recent memory—adding to a July already packed with major releases from Clipse, Travis Scott’s JACKBOYS, Nicholas Craven and Boldy James, and upcoming drops from Metro Boomin and NBA YoungBoy.

For now, fans are holding their breath and watching closely. If the stars align on July 25, we could be witnessing the return of one of hip-hop’s most dynamic duos—just when the culture needs them most.
