A new song by Pharrell and billionaire rapper Jay-Z, “Entrepreneur” dropped today on the 21st of August 2020. The song is produced by Pharrell and Chad Hugo. The song is a soul-tinged track that shares the hardships of entrepreneurial people of color.
The lines delivered in the song directly address the problems in the system. Pharrell is heard singing in a whispered tone saying “In this position with no choice/A system imprison young black boys”. Jay-Z is hear rapping “Lies told to you, through you. Tubes and Hulus/Shows with no rules that look like you do”.
The single urges the public that any sort of change they are hoping for can only happen through the system. The song pushes people to call for this systematic change to take place. As the song also focuses on inequalities Black people face in the business world, the song is mainly to empower them.
“Entrepreneur” was released as part of Pharrell’s new Time magazine cover package titled “The New America Revolution”. An inspiring music video has also been released to accompany the song. the video includes achievement of Issa Rae, Nipsey Hussle, Tyler the Creator and many other Black business owners like TyAnthony Davis.
